Yeah, I am lukewarm on AT&T but Jeff sent me something recently wherein somebody compared data speed and connectivity among Chicago carriers and AT&T was the clear winner. So p much they all suck and you should go w/ the cheapest or one w/ best customer service.

I would be very surprised if the next iPhone is a 4G phone.

Jeff, Friday, 27 January 2012 16:18 (twelve years ago) link

The 3G coverage in Hong Kong was amazing. It was like a broadband connection that always worked. That needs to happen here.

Jeff, Friday, 27 January 2012 16:19 (twelve years ago) link

I got Sprint basically only because I get a discount through the university.

n/a is on his way to go hang out in my old 'hood in ATL and I am having a strange combo of envy and nostalgia, which is weird bc I was objectively miserable for most of my time there and I have never really wanted to go back.

gonna give her the old fuquay-varina (Jenny), Friday, 27 January 2012 16:27 (twelve years ago) link

LOL based on how slow the MARTA trains are and the walk Im only going to have like 45 minutes to hang out. My goal is a good lunch. Maybe a burrito.

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 27 January 2012 16:34 (twelve years ago) link

Burritos are one of the things I'm nostalgic about!!!

gonna give her the old fuquay-varina (Jenny), Friday, 27 January 2012 16:39 (twelve years ago) link

Jeff, why do you think the next iphone won't be 4G?

I chipped a tooth on the buttbone (askance johnson), Friday, 27 January 2012 16:40 (twelve years ago) link

MARTA will make you appreciate the CTA, though. Phew.

gonna give her the old fuquay-varina (Jenny), Friday, 27 January 2012 16:40 (twelve years ago) link

Where's a good burrito place in the loop that might actually have seating available at lunch? We've got a big client in the office and we've been instructed not to eat at our desks so bringing food back is not an option. I'm really craving a good burrito today.

What time? I like La Cocina.

gonna give her the old fuquay-varina (Jenny), Friday, 27 January 2012 16:44 (twelve years ago) link

Probably be after 1 or so, to avoid the main noon rush.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Friday, 27 January 2012 16:46 (twelve years ago) link

You've got to be kidding me that AT&T was rated best. That's terrible news. I'm also disappointed to hear that iPhone 5 won't be 4G. Why the hell not?

Je55e, Friday, 27 January 2012 16:48 (twelve years ago) link

You'll be good then. There's one in Jackson between State and Dearborn.

gonna give her the old fuquay-varina (Jenny), Friday, 27 January 2012 16:49 (twelve years ago) link

Thanks! Think I'll give that a try.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Friday, 27 January 2012 16:50 (twelve years ago) link

It could be 4G, but Tim Cook has said several times that the tech isn't mature enough for apple to move to that yet. Issues with the size of the chipset, battery life, readiness of the carriers networks.

Jeff, Friday, 27 January 2012 16:57 (twelve years ago) link

Jesse and I are going to see Diamanda Galas at the MCA on Feb. 23.

How does that thing markers always does go?

\(^_^)/

Is that it? Anyway, that's how I feel inside!

Je55e, Friday, 27 January 2012 18:02 (twelve years ago) link

Jenny do you use Instagram? I uploaded some Five points pics.

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 27 January 2012 18:08 (twelve years ago) link

I do! I'll go look!

gonna give her the old fuquay-varina (Jenny), Friday, 27 January 2012 18:08 (twelve years ago) link

It all looks the same.

gonna give her the old fuquay-varina (Jenny), Friday, 27 January 2012 18:16 (twelve years ago) link

No veggie burritos at Vortex or EAYC. I got a veggie burger at Vortex. It was alright. That place has a lot of rules.

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 27 January 2012 18:20 (twelve years ago) link

The neighborhood is nice though. I had fun walking around.

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 27 January 2012 18:37 (twelve years ago) link

Aw, sad about no veggie burritos at EAYC. I ate them so much. I probably made Jeff eat them.

I'm glad you had fun!

gonna give her the old fuquay-varina (Jenny), Friday, 27 January 2012 18:41 (twelve years ago) link

Wow. I just looked up the "rules" at the Vortex. What a bunch of assholes. Sorry I said to go there.

gonna give her the old fuquay-varina (Jenny), Friday, 27 January 2012 18:43 (twelve years ago) link

They've got almost as many pages of rules in their menu as pages of food items. I'm usually a really good tipper, but any place that harps on you unrelentingly about how much you need to tip instantly makes me want to be a horrible tipper.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Friday, 27 January 2012 18:55 (twelve years ago) link

it makes me think that they have been emotionally damaged in some way
kuma's has rules too though

La Lechera, Friday, 27 January 2012 18:56 (twelve years ago) link

I don't remember it being that bad or being so sexist but this was 12 years ago. And my regular haunts were EAYC and the Brewhouse since I felt a little insufficiently counter cultural to go the Vortex in the evenings.

xp I have issues with Kuma's on that, too. That whole "hostility" approach to customer service. Dumb.

gonna give her the old fuquay-varina (Jenny), Friday, 27 January 2012 18:59 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah, I was a little disappointed with that aspect of Kuma's when I finally went there, but the delicious food helped me get over it.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Friday, 27 January 2012 19:00 (twelve years ago) link

What rules does Kumas have?

Jeff, Friday, 27 January 2012 19:01 (twelve years ago) link

That said, we do have some rules we’d appreciate you abide by:

1) We do not take reservations.
2) We will not “put on the game, bro”
3) No music requests.
4) No Minors after 10pm.
5) Our kitchen is only 16×6. Please be patient.

And during patio season (summer):
1) Patio opens when we open it.
2) To go service ends during patio season. Or when the patio is running. Whether it is sooner or later than the dates posted.
3) Patio is open when weather permits.
4) Patio closes Monday- Saturday at 10:30pm. Sundays at 9:00pm.
5) Kitchen is still only 16×6. Please be even more patient.

Nowhere near as off-putting as those Vortex ones though.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Friday, 27 January 2012 19:02 (twelve years ago) link

At least Kuma's used "please". Vortex was like one notch short of, "if you don't like it, fuck off".

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Friday, 27 January 2012 19:03 (twelve years ago) link

those are all pretty reasonable imo

the third kind of dubstep (Jordan), Friday, 27 January 2012 19:05 (twelve years ago) link

ugh the 'bar etiquette' rules on that vortex site are the worst

i am not reading that because i am never ever going there

La Lechera, Friday, 27 January 2012 19:14 (twelve years ago) link

When I first googled it, the pictures popped up on the menu and it didn't exactly strike me as the type of place that someone in this thread would recommend.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Friday, 27 January 2012 19:16 (twelve years ago) link

Kumas rules seem reasonable, even appreciated. I didn't even read the rules at Vortex. But it's weird they're 18 and up all the time. It seemed a little douchey in a "cool" way. The thrift clothes/head shop next door had a handwritten pro-Ron Paul sign outside.

I'm at the airport now and there's a lawyer getting very mad about law stuff on his cell. Someone's lawyer recused the judge.

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 27 January 2012 19:17 (twelve years ago) link

I've had Sprint with my dumbphone and it's been fine.

lol @ the retronym "dumbphone"

jaymc, Friday, 27 January 2012 19:18 (twelve years ago) link

I'm down with the 'victimized' explanation -- seems as if some real assholes have been in there before

coupled, of course, with owner assholism

long duk dan (dan m), Friday, 27 January 2012 19:18 (twelve years ago) link

nope, on further perusal, just owner assholism

place reminds me of THE ALLEY too for some reason

long duk dan (dan m), Friday, 27 January 2012 19:20 (twelve years ago) link

Wow, I googled vortex to check out their rules, and I'm fairly certain that it's where I spent New Year's Eve 1999 with my sister. WTF.

I chipped a tooth on the buttbone (askance johnson), Friday, 27 January 2012 19:22 (twelve years ago) link

same brand of asshole

La Lechera, Friday, 27 January 2012 19:22 (twelve years ago) link

actually it was New Year's Eve 1998.
xp

I chipped a tooth on the buttbone (askance johnson), Friday, 27 January 2012 19:22 (twelve years ago) link

(not your sister aj)

La Lechera, Friday, 27 January 2012 19:22 (twelve years ago) link

Ha ha I was going to compare it to The Alley but I feel bad for Jenny, everyone piling on her restaurant recommendation. It was fine, it really was.

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 27 January 2012 19:24 (twelve years ago) link

I don't recall ever going into the Vortex. Seems like I would have at some point.
