Burzum is the solo project of Varg Vikernes (born Kristian Larsson Vikernes, AKA Greven Grishnackh/Count Grishnackh, currently legally named Varg Qisling Larsson Vikernes). He is most famous for being a psychopathic murdering racist anti-Semite piece of shite , but who musically is a genius. From the Depths of Darkness is re-recordings of Varg's favourite early Burzum tracks the way he wanted them to be, and isn't a cash grabbing exercise at all, no way.

Anima Morte is a progressive rock band coming from Sweden. It is a collaboration of four metal musicians: Fredrik Klingwall (a member of progressive metal act Loch Vostok, thrash/heavy-metal act Machinery and death metal band Flagellation), Daniel Cannerfelt (a member of death metal band Flagellation), Stefan Granberg and Teddy Mцller (the frontman of progressive metal band Loch Vostok, drummer of defunct progressive metal band Mayadome, a member of death metal act Flagellation, horror-thrashers F.K.Ь. and Danish power metal band Wuthering Heights). I was meaning to get to that Hell album, would have done it in time for the poll had I known it wasn't just a reissue, but rather new recordings a la Pentagram. Anima Morte is cool spooky, proggy soundtrack music, but really didn't think it was that special.

Elder is 3 piece stoner doom band from Boston. They have a self-titled full-length album released in 2008, a second full-length album titled “Dead Roots Stirring”, released 2011, both on MeteorCity records, and a split CD with Hong Kong’s Queen Elephantine on Concrete Lo-Fi Records.

it's a real sad story behind the Hell album but I'm glad it's working out for the remaining members. It's a really good album. Pagan Altar also do the re-recording of old tracks they never got the chance too and they have made 3 terrific albums from it so hopefully there's more to come from Hell.

Old Silver Key is the new band born from the hyperactive mind of Drudkh mainman Roman Sayenko and consisting of four Drudkh members plus French artist Neige (Alcest, Amesoeurs) on vocals. OSK’s debut album is entitled “Tales of Wanderings” and has been released on September 16th 2011. (Season of Mist label).

This album grew on me after i got over the fact it wasn't a heavy album like I had hoped for. It's shoegaze.

The Old Silver Key album is weak in my opinion. Both sides could have done better, and nothing really meshes.

Elder was my #1. The only explanation that it wasn't top 10 could only be that 16 people heard it. Right? My blurb:

Emphasizing a heavily distorted, doomy sound, they're the latest to merge aspects of doom with stoner rock's melodies and sticky riffs. They describe themselves as "a sonic interpretation of the forces that surround us; the pounding waves of ancient seas, the weight of stone colossi rising up from the earth and the endlessness of inflamed, majestic skies." Or alternately, "like Ufomammut fucking Black Sabbath sideways." However you want to describe it, Dead Roots Stirring is immediately addictive, and has stayed at the top of my playlist for months.

Elder also topped the Stoner HiVe poll, #4 in Stoned Sun Vibrations, #5 at The Obelisk and #7 at Doomantia.

Elder was nice but wasn't a favorite. I do regret not voting for the Ufesas record though. It's owned my January so far.

i read a review of the band Alcest and so i'm listening to their new album now

it's supposed to be black metal, the review said shoegazer too, which i kinda get

overall though it feels a lot more like 90s bands like Hum or Chavez to me than metal, it's cool though, i don't know if they are trv kvlt though :|

it doesn't really seem like black metal at least to me, but i'm no expert

Blood Stain Child is a trance metal band from the city of Osaka, Japan. They are influenced by techno, gothic, rock and also visual kei elements.
The band formed under the name “VisionQuest” in 1999, but reformed under the name Blood Stain Child in 2000.

BIOGRAPHY

Blood Stain Child was formed in 2000 by Ryo (vocals, bass), Ryu (guitar), Daiki (guitar), Aki (keyboards), and Violator (drums). In August 2000, Blood Stain Child recorded their first demo, which consisted of the songs “Silence of Northern Hell”, “Requiem”, and “Legend of Dark”. The band sent that demo to a radio station and the DJ enjoyed the music so much that he recommended the band to the record label, M&I Company, who eventually signed Blood Stain Child.
A notable feature of Blood Stain Child is their tendency to incorporate both dance and trance related themes and elements into their music. The band’s sound includes death vocals complemented at times by clean vocals.

i agree w/you about the alcest album m@tt - altho the thing is that black metal has kinda porous boundries these days. still if you played the album for me w/o identifying it, i wouldnt hear any trad BM influence at all really.

this is somewaht true though imo alcest are wayyyyy too tepid rhythmically to merit comparison to those kinds of bands.

I guess I should have campaigned harder for Elder. I posted a YouTube link with the entire album on the Sandbox.

Regarding Alcest, Neige, Aegnor and Argoth had some demos that were black metal in 2001, but with the latter two left, it quickly became basically shoegaze, or metalgaze. I loved Souvenirs d'un autre monde (2007), but everything sort of sounds the same and I hadn't been inspired to hear the latest.
