Bottom line, this site in gerneral is cool for just seeing what else is out there no matter what type of noise it is..

SeanWayne, Wednesday, 18 January 2012 02:09 (twelve years ago) link

anything in music gets discussed on ilm. Which is great.

Jimmy Riddle Orchestra (Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker), Wednesday, 18 January 2012 02:11 (twelve years ago) link

even your album got discussed, sean!

Jimmy Riddle Orchestra (Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker), Wednesday, 18 January 2012 02:51 (twelve years ago) link

(pretty much all of the critics on ilm vote in that poll sean)

I wish. I was only one of two people who voted for Graveyard and Elder, and of three for Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats.

Fastnbulbous, Wednesday, 18 January 2012 03:27 (twelve years ago) link

man everything about Acid Witch is so awesome, from the stoner riffs to the graphics to song titles, the band photos, I'm loving those guys.

wolves lacan, Wednesday, 18 January 2012 04:05 (twelve years ago) link

agreed!

Mordy, Wednesday, 18 January 2012 04:13 (twelve years ago) link

I ordered the CD a month ago and still don't have it. Nevertheless, I sure hope more people voted for it here than in Pazz & Jop.

^what is this post referring to, Uncle Acid or Acid Witch?

75. Deafheaven - Roads to Judah (390 Points, 16 Votes)

http://www.last.fm/music/Deafheaven

Based out of San Francisco, CA, Deafheaven started as an isolated project between frontman George Clarke and guitarist Kerry McCoy. After sending the demo to various blogs and receiving overwhelmingly positive reception, they accepted offers to play live shows and added members of Whirl and Temple Of Saturn to form the quintet that today tours as Deafheaven. On July 29th, 2010, Deafheaven played their first show, marking the unofficial genesis of their rise to bay area prominence. Within months of forming, they began receiving interest from numerous record labels and officially signed on with Deathwish Records in December of 2010.

Since signing to Deathwish, Deafheaven has released a limited edition 7” demo, debuted their first full album, Roads to Judah, toured the West Coast; and are currently preparing for a tour of the South West.

Their music is described as “A dizzying hybrid of shoegaze shimmer, hardcore punk passion, emo vulnerability, and black metal intensity.” They have cited a wide range of musical influences, including, but not limited to, Morbid Angel, The Smiths, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Orchid and My Bloody Valentine

wonder if sean has an opinion on these guys

Jimmy Riddle Orchestra (Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker), Wednesday, 18 January 2012 14:20 (twelve years ago) link

interesting list of influences. i don't quite get how they all go together, but i've noticed that no matter how long your list of influences, if it includes 'black metal' it probably sounds mostly like black metal and much less like the other things...

Mordy, Wednesday, 18 January 2012 14:25 (twelve years ago) link

Black metal is the green bell pepper of influences.

La Lechera, Wednesday, 18 January 2012 14:25 (twelve years ago) link

I'm guessing they sound like Wolves in the Throne Room, like lots of BM-gaze bands. WitTR haven't been mentioned much for a hight placing, I think they're locked on for top ten, and possibly top five.

good luck in your pyramid (Neil S), Wednesday, 18 January 2012 14:28 (twelve years ago) link

"we're emo in the sense that if you could understand our lyrics, you'd see that they're really quite sensitive."

Mordy, Wednesday, 18 January 2012 14:30 (twelve years ago) link

72. Lantlôs - Agape (392 Points, 14 Votes)

http://www.last.fm/music/Lantl%C3%B4s

Lantlôs was founded in 2005/2006 in Rheda, Germany by Herbst and Angrrau. Some rough demos were recorded and later released on the extremely limited “Îsern Himel” demo tape by the band itself in 2008. Because both Herbst and Angrrau were not satisfied with the sound and “Îsern Himel” was always meant to be a demo, they started to record the debut in their homestudio in September of 2007. After Alboîn joined as a session singer their first line-up was complete. “Lantlôs”, released by ATMF, saw daylight in September of 2008 in combination with the perfect artwork by Fursy Teyssier. Shortly thereafter, Angrrau and Alboîn left Lantlôs. The debut was rereleased on LP via Deviant Records and on tape via Karge Welten in 2009.

In the end of 2007/early 2008 Herbst started to work on the next album”.neon”, and eventually Neige (Alcest) joined Lantlôs as a permanent vocalist. “.neon” was recorded in February 2009. In March 2010 Lantlôs switched to Prophecy Productions. Again Fursy Teyssier delivered even more breathtaking artwork for “.neon” and the new material was released in May 2010.

Herbst and Neige will enter the studio in mid July 2010 to record the third full length.
Herbst words about their following album; “With our new album we’ll tread new paths, both musically and conceptually. In general, the upcoming album will be very vanguard and rather unaccessible and the black metal vibe will be gone almost entirely. Still the record will be much darker than its predecessors, nihilistic, and strange. It’ll be bulky, ugly and will feed off its listeners.”

2. ORCHID (SF) hail from San Francisco, California. They began playing live in and around San Francisco in early 2008. Since that time they have shared the stage with such heavies as Pentagram, Earthless, Nachtmystium, Fu Manchu, Astra, Slough Feg, Ludicra, and Hammers of Misfortune.

ORCHID signed with German Doom label The Church Within Records in October of 2009 and released their debut EP Through the Devil’s Doorway in December of that year to much praise and critical acclaim from both European and American press.
A full length LP, Capricorn, was released in February of 2011.

gotta say, mordy's spotify playlist is helping me keep up with this
there are only 4 subscribers?

La Lechera, Wednesday, 18 January 2012 15:12 (twelve years ago) link

Presumably a lot of people are listening to the other polls playlist to help with their ballots

Jimmy Riddle Orchestra (Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker), Wednesday, 18 January 2012 15:16 (twelve years ago) link

Well it took me...er..6 hours but I've finally managed to hear a few tracks off each of yesterday's countdown placers. I feel my world is a little topsy turvy right now cos I really liked a surprisingly (to me) large number of 'em.

Very much liked - ICS Vortex, Hands of Orlac, The Wounded Kings, Dornenreich

Fell head over heels for - Premonition 13, Pitom

Coupled with the fact that I spent the early hours of this morning at work blasting the Red Fang album I only discovered yesterday, I'm a bit worried about what's happening to me.

Onto 75 and beyond!

71. Slough Feg - Made in Poland (395 Points, 13 Votes, 1 #1)
http://www.cruzdelsurmusic.com/store/image/cache/data/sloughfeg_live-300x300.jpg
http://www.last.fm/music/Slough+Feg

First ever SLOUGH FEG live, includes 28-page booklet + liner notes by Mike Scalzi and full of color photos!
’The Lord Weird Slough Feg’, whose name is derived from a character in the British mythology-inspired Sláine comics, originates from Central Pennsylvania.

The band relocated to San Francisco, California in 1990 in hopes of resurrecting the ailing ‘true metal’ scene in the United States. The band quickly gained a reputation as, ‘The band San Francisco loved to hate’ by taking a stand against the trends and incorporating stage savagery with strong visual imagery.
The band moved to underground Italian label, Cruz Del Sur in 2005 and shortened their name to simply, ‘Slough Feg’ with the release of ‘Atavism’.
Slough Feg’s style is an eclectic mix of Celtic Folk and Traditional Metal peppered with buckets of energy and lyrical depth.
Bill Magill is known to be a massive fan.

68. Condenados - A Painful Journey Into Nihil (406 Points, 14 Votes)

This band from Chile performs a dark and heavy Doom Metal, highly influenced by perverted cults like SAINT VITUS, CATHEDRAL, ELECTRIC WIZARD, among others. CONDENADOS will penetrate your soul, and will let you smell an internal rot, through the invocation of ancient demons, inside the sonorous malediction of this band. “THE END HAS FINALLY COME!”

btw we're doing a country map for the poll again this year.

which is always interesting. Seandalai/johnny f , you guys fancy doing that for the big poll? Would be interesting to see the geographical make up of the bands voted for.
