Man, I love this Rational Animals record
http://katorgaworks.bigcartel.com/product/rational-animals-lp
It's free!
2011, and I just caught up to it. it's like the Pissed Jeans "my life is a series of petty humiliations" thing, but with more hardcore matinee arrangements. 26 minutes of dumb brilliance. "WHOOOO I FEEL ALRIGHT, I WILL SURVIVE". Gloria Gaynor for the stuck upstate set.

Are we going to be able to discuss Cloud Nothings as punk/non-indie underground once their new (amazing) CD gets reviewed? hard to imagine they will still be underground in a couple weeks.

I think Wichita put their stuff out in the UK so I kind of think of them as a mnstrm-ish indie band but no it doesn't really matter

best new (relatively) hardcore I've heard in a minute - LONG PIGS from Brooklyn who are just complete OTT chaos on their 7" - there is a lot of that kind of thing right now I suppose but they do it really powerfully

well, i guess no one else read that zine. it was really good!
i've been listening to the BROWN SUGAR "Sings of Birds and Racism" LP from last year a tonne lately. i didn't really get it when i first heard it, too chaotic or something and the vocals seemed too low in the mix--anyways, i'm glad i returned to it because it is a WILD WILD RECORD. i've listened to it maybe eight or ten times so far and it still not only grows on me with each listen, but totally fucking blows my mind EVERY TIME. it's like, super /punk/, too. unlike my other fav 2011 punk lp wiccans - skullduggery it's less likely to appeal only to the fan of hardcore punk; it's really fast and has breakdowns but it's much more a guitar rock record. it's got a lot of hot licks, every once in a while you can hear a saxophone (?) wailing away. i can't stress how important it is you dudes listen to this record. it's relentlessly creative, manic but not spazzy, full of surprises, totally over the top and addictive. and honestly the amount of ENERGY that is TRANSFERED INTO YOUR BODY when you listen to it is actually insane

great Nu Sensae show on friday at a squat in Oakland. Peace from Vancouver also played, killed it. their records sound kind of like Sonic Youth: http://peacevancouver.bandcamp.com/ . also, Straight Crimes (Erin from High Castle/Sister Fucker/Child Pornography with Brad from Huff Stuff Magazine) played and they're probably the best new Oakland band of 2012.

me and other ppl had some cloud talk going at the weekend about setting up a UK tour w/ them and other bands (specifically, ones featuring the participants) but idk if it would be that practical. they seem to genuinely not care about getting more widely known and have had a debut album planned for at least two years, plus a split single w/ Kilslug. but yeah they completely floor me
― it's the Suede/Denim secret police/they have come for your 90s niece (DJ Mencap), Thursday, 25 October 2012 18:19 (eleven years ago) link
nu-kilslug still an unbelievable thing to me. played a show with them last year and they went 90 minutes, basically doing every song they knew because the crowd wouldn't let them stop. they also put out a pretty demented record this year, 11" red vinyl that plays from the inside out, in a hardcover leather sleeve embossed w/ gold lettering. the label's selling them at a loss, total labor of satanic love.
