LEX!! i had a dream right before i woke up this morning, in which you and i were going to some event and you were wearing this BEAUTIFUL dress! ok so it was above the knee, and it was made from what looked like a pleated chiffon (very narrow/shallow pleats, the entire length of the dress). it was a kind of pale medium-bright blue, with long sleeves (cuffed, but with that sort of puffed-at-the-wrist 70s look), and a shallow scoop neck. it looked like it had a sort of elasticized waist (but not in a cheap/dumb way) and the skirt part was a moderate a-line, and the torso was fitted.

that sounds kind of dumb but you looked so pretty!

pale medium-bright blue

I had to think about this for a couple mins

lol

ENBB, Friday, 20 January 2012 18:14 (twelve years ago) link

it was a poor description, i admit

just1n3, Friday, 20 January 2012 19:34 (twelve years ago) link

I love pale medium bright blue! If I wasn't on my phone I would GIS the colour in my head. Like the best summer day's sky. Yay! I'm so flattered!! I hope I was wearing a lot of spanx because I'm generally too lumpy for chiffon and tbh never try it, haha.

Now I want a pale medium bright blue dress!

(but omg, fitted torso, slight A line, you dressed me perfectly. I love you Justine!!!)

Oh I forgot to mention it was layered over a pale slip!

just1n3, Saturday, 21 January 2012 03:06 (twelve years ago) link

And you didn't look lumpy!

just1n3, Saturday, 21 January 2012 03:07 (twelve years ago) link

Even better! Amazing. You must be my official dream stylist from now on. :D I told Andrew about this and how it made me feel like a cool kid and loved and <3

That was the colour in my head!! When I used to do web design, many designs ended up in that colour with yellow accents. I have a Swedish soul. :D :D

yeah speaking of chiffon pleats I saw this while xmas shopping last month and really really liked it. it's the girliest piece of clothing I've ever considered buying (usually I would detest the idea of wearing anything pleaty/frilly/puffy/not straight lines, so I'm a bit confused over why I like this dress):

desperate for it to go on sale, currently at $225 :/

salsa shark, Saturday, 21 January 2012 11:56 (twelve years ago) link

ooh i love it too! the ruffles/pleats are nicely refined yet still fun - i bet it would feel great to swirl around in

modcloth had a big sale this week so i bought a couple of summer dresses
http://www.modcloth.com/shop/dresses/try-triangle-again-dress
http://www.modcloth.com/shop/dresses/captivating-cascades-dress

good chance they will end up in the pile of other modcloth dresses i own that don't fit, but for $14-15 it was worth the gamble

YESYESYES

I just got back from a dream attack (sunny successor), Saturday, 21 January 2012 21:22 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah, I love that.

I'm gonna return the houndstooth skirt but I don't know if I'll actually get in in another size. Haven't decided if I am gonna get it in another size or not.

After this and the red dress thing not fitting I'm pretty frustrated with online shopping. Oh well.

ENBB, Saturday, 21 January 2012 21:27 (twelve years ago) link

Thanks J! Damn, why can't I do that? I really love it, haven't worn it yet - thinking I will do so for my 40th in Feb. Right, now to try to post the second one...

ljubljana, Saturday, 21 January 2012 22:24 (twelve years ago) link

And here is the second one (drumroll, fingers crossed) (might be hueg)

oooh, I love those dresses, R! You've done well. No new dresses for me lately.. BUUUUUUUUUUT, in the middle of February I'll be in ~Cuba~ for our honeymoon and I will get to wear the dresses I've purchased over the fall/winter without having to deal with tights and shrugs and other sources of warmth! Very excited.

I have two Modcloth dresses that don't fit well either :(

Now that is what I call a dress-wearing occasion!

ljubljana, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 02:36 (twelve years ago) link

The one thing I am proud of – and this might be because the weather has been more mild in general – is that I have successfully continued to wear skirts and dresses all through winter, simply adding on a couple layers but finally keeping some sense of style. In years past I always just suck it up and throwing pants on all winter long. I simply do not look very good in pants, I have finally reconciled myself to this fact. But I sure as hell could use a tan!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 03:16 (twelve years ago) link

Forgive the shitty grammar, I am lazy and used the speech to text option to type this for me. Terrible.

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 03:17 (twelve years ago) link

That gets easier when you a) don't own pants, and b) are from Michigan and waited for the school bus outside in all weather, and c) are a sturdy peasant like me.

Global warming also a help tbh. NYC has been ridic so far this "winter."

I have a paranoid daughter and a son who is addicted to internet (Laurel), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 05:07 (twelve years ago) link

I've been waiting for the bus my whole life in Toronto... I don't even know how to drive. :( I used to be able to wear jeans to work, that was easier..this year I picked warm boots over thick leg cover!

Finefinemusic: Cuba!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is incredibly awesome!!! It's been a dream destination spot for me for decades. I came close once but the person I was traveling with at the time was not serious about it. Congratulations and best wishes, enjoy your honeymoon!

*tera, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 08:04 (twelve years ago) link

Thank you! We're really excited. This is the first time either of us have escaped "winter" to go somewhere nice, and we were both too afraid of Mexico, heh. Plus we're historical junkies (he comes with a side of political junkie as well) so we're really looking forward to Havana.

Back to dresses, I don't know if I didn't see these before or eShakti added a bunch of new ones, but can I say DAMN THEM!! ?

I like the pear dress, esp. the color, but that black one is a bit busy for me. I can't really wear large prints.

La Lechera, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:32 (twelve years ago) link

ahhh, that's fair. It was more the idea of clock prints that somehow whispered your name to me! Heh. It *is* a bit busy. Also I wish it were possible for all prints to always line up at the seams.

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:33 (twelve years ago) link

I do like clocks!

La Lechera, Tuesday, 24 January 2012 14:34 (twelve years ago) link

Ooh the knit stripes. All the other ones are anathema to my body type but cheerful fabrics.

Love the yellow polka dot, LOVE as in I WANT!

Has anyone out there ever ordered a dress from:

Now I want the pear dress as well because it does have a flattering cut. Not buying dresses until after I deliver though....
