Settlers of catan looks awesome, though tbf I'm not exactly sure what it is.

In related news, due to wedding registry hilarity, we now have two brand new "classic" Clue board games, if anybody wants one.

the emancipation of distraction (askance johnson), Thursday, 12 January 2012 18:05 (twelve years ago) link

I'll play if it is the iPhone version.

Jeff, Thursday, 12 January 2012 18:12 (twelve years ago) link

I got electronic catchphrase for Xmas that I want to break out for a game night.

courtnoodle, Thursday, 12 January 2012 18:23 (twelve years ago) link

i wish someone here would play catan with us

jeff and jenny have we played settlers of cataan? i get it mixed up with that other board game we play sometimes.

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 12 January 2012 18:25 (twelve years ago) link

Who wants to play the battle star galactica game again??

Jeff, Thursday, 12 January 2012 18:26 (twelve years ago) link

We have, I think you may have won.

Jeff, Thursday, 12 January 2012 18:26 (twelve years ago) link

n/a we played Settlers once and IIRC you liked it.

I was thinking about the BSG game the other day and coming to terms with the likelihood that I'll never play it again.

:(

Jeff, Thursday, 12 January 2012 18:30 (twelve years ago) link

We should really just sell it then.

Jeff, Thursday, 12 January 2012 18:32 (twelve years ago) link

I thought you have always had Catchphrase?

Bon Ivoj (jaymc), Thursday, 12 January 2012 18:34 (twelve years ago) link

It's *electronic*.

I would like to give Settlers of Cataan a go. I'm worried I'm not smart enough for it, tbh.

Je55e, Thursday, 12 January 2012 18:36 (twelve years ago) link

I was not aware there was an analog Catchphrase.

Bon Ivoj (jaymc), Thursday, 12 January 2012 18:38 (twelve years ago) link

xp Aw, I made you frown. I just feel like its complexity makes playing it a chore for ppl who aren't super enthusiastic about that kind of game. Since its hard to find players, we don't play it much and we have to relearn it every time, which makes it more complex…

I feel like we need to go play at the f'n Dice Dojo or something to really take full advantage.

Jesse, Settlers is really easy to learn. It probably takes a few games to really develop a strategy but that's part of the fun IMO.

I had to drive to and back from a meeting out in Aurora this moring, they are actually doing an admirable job of keeping up on the roads and sidewalks. Its nasty way out west.

Dice Dojo is awesome!

La Lechera, Thursday, 12 January 2012 19:03 (twelve years ago) link

I feel like the captain of the football team when I walk I'm there.

Jeff, Thursday, 12 January 2012 19:08 (twelve years ago) link

No, I just got electronic catchphrase. I think there might have been a card game version?

courtnoodle, Thursday, 12 January 2012 19:09 (twelve years ago) link

So who brought electronic Catchphrase to our apartment in like 2008?

Bon Ivoj (jaymc), Thursday, 12 January 2012 19:14 (twelve years ago) link

i think i liked the BSG game more once i became a cylon and was basically a spoiler for everyone else

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 12 January 2012 19:56 (twelve years ago) link

i feel the need to insert the "a few minutes to learn...a lifetime to master!" thing here

carcassonne 4 lyfe
(i have only played catan once and it was confusing...because i only played it once)

La Lechera, Thursday, 12 January 2012 20:03 (twelve years ago) link

carcasson is the game i get confused with settlers of cataan

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 12 January 2012 20:03 (twelve years ago) link

Carcassone is infinitely better.

I think the bsg game would be more fun with 4 or 5 ppl. It would also take 4 hours to play.

Jeff, Thursday, 12 January 2012 20:11 (twelve years ago) link

call of Cthulhu owns all these games

long duk dan (dan m), Thursday, 12 January 2012 20:28 (twelve years ago) link

Actually I own all these games.

gonna give her the old fuquay-varina (Jenny), Thursday, 12 January 2012 20:43 (twelve years ago) link

Except Call of Cthulhu.

What kind of game is it?

gonna give her the old fuquay-varina (Jenny), Thursday, 12 January 2012 20:44 (twelve years ago) link

hyper-nerdy board game where you collaborate with co-players to try to figure out deep dark mysteries and avoid going insane or dying in various ways

also it's very hard to actually "win"

long duk dan (dan m), Thursday, 12 January 2012 21:18 (twelve years ago) link

and, as the name suggests, it is set within the Lovecraftian world

long duk dan (dan m), Thursday, 12 January 2012 21:18 (twelve years ago) link

That sounds really good.

gonna give her the old fuquay-varina (Jenny), Thursday, 12 January 2012 21:23 (twelve years ago) link

it's fun but it can be really goddamn frustrating to play for 2-3 hours and then BOOM Cthulhu rises and everyone loses their mind with fear and it's over

long duk dan (dan m), Thursday, 12 January 2012 21:29 (twelve years ago) link

sounds like my prom night

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 12 January 2012 21:31 (twelve years ago) link

hey they're letting us out at 4:30 due to weather

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 12 January 2012 21:42 (twelve years ago) link

biking to/from work was... challenging

tanuki, Thursday, 12 January 2012 22:08 (twelve years ago) link

oh no
poor tanuki!

people are such roadhog bastards on the roads you take too

La Lechera, Thursday, 12 January 2012 22:14 (twelve years ago) link

xp So I saw.

Where do you work now?

gonna give her the old fuquay-varina (Jenny), Thursday, 12 January 2012 22:15 (twelve years ago) link

Did anyone else get that plowtracker to load?

Since I had my meeting out in the middle of nowhere this morning I have to drive home tonight. Trying to decide if I should leave soon or wait until the rush of everyone leaving early passes.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Thursday, 12 January 2012 22:15 (twelve years ago) link

I got it to load on my desktop but it took awhile.

gonna give her the old fuquay-varina (Jenny), Thursday, 12 January 2012 22:17 (twelve years ago) link

Same for me

Je55e, Thursday, 12 January 2012 22:19 (twelve years ago) link

lech: they weren't too bad, though i did get yelled at by some dude crossing the street. i couldn't understand him and wasn't overly interested to hear exactly what he said tbh.

jenny: halsted/division-ish

tanuki, Thursday, 12 January 2012 22:28 (twelve years ago) link

i would be up for borad games if it ever comes to pass

tanuki, Thursday, 12 January 2012 22:30 (twelve years ago) link

I meant where as in what do you do/who is your employer.

gonna give her the old fuquay-varina (Jenny), Thursday, 12 January 2012 22:32 (twelve years ago) link

ah, sorry — it's a sort-of fundraising call center for orchestras/ballets/theaters

do you not like slouching? (Eazy), Friday, 13 January 2012 03:53 (twelve years ago) link

yeah, I've seen some pictures on fb from friends in Homer and the surrounding areas, lots of snow

long duk dan (dan m), Friday, 13 January 2012 04:44 (twelve years ago) link

The CTA bus system is absolutely worthless. Standing at the stop for the 97 near my house and nearly empty bus drives right past me. Apparently standing directly under a bus stop sign and waving both arms as the bus passes is code for, "no thanks, I'm good, just standing out here for the hell of it, please go on".

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Friday, 13 January 2012 14:42 (twelve years ago) link

The sample size you're relying on is too small to reach the conclusion that the CTA bus system is worthless. But I totally feel b/c that happened to me once and it gave me the steaming, eye-bleeding rage.

Je55e, Friday, 13 January 2012 15:51 (twelve years ago) link

Ha, yeah. I turn into Yosemite Sam and start cursing incoherently and jumping up and down and launching myself into the air by shooting my guns at the ground.
