Kevin Bewersdorf - Slow Dudes
http://freemusicarchive.org/music/Kevin_Bewersdorf/Slow_Dudes/

A friend of mine's RISD classmate (please don't let this repel anyone). Glitchy, cheesy, MIDI pop goodness. Favorites: "Hi Hi Hello" "The Last Seinfeld" and "1989 Toyota Camry"

That thing I linked to is a 'spoof' of some sort apparently. I thought it was pretty good to be honest.

The band just told me they have their page up now. They are something special. My #6 album of 2011!

Ever crave a band that's so downtuned that you can actually track the motion of the strings and feel the vibrations in your internal organs? Chile's At Devil Dirt has a doozy for you. It's hard to believe it's just two guys, as their debut self-titled album has a mammoth sludgy fuzz sound worthy of Electric Wizard, Goatsnake, Kyuss and Floor/Torche, with some pretty inventive psychedelic vocals with harmonies. On "Rocknrolla" they even bring to mind T. Rex!

At Devil Dirt (Corvus Discos)

This band from Argentina (instrumental stoner/psych) is a late discovery:

I upload stuff to bandcamp. Older stuff - guitar based sadcore or jangle pop. Newer stuff - more new wave. Most of it is free if you want it.

Some great Kraut-ish jams from Indirect:

http://indirect.bandcamp.com/album/2010-direct-from-w-k-a-f-compilation

(They aren't free/name your price so I won't link them, but Fang Wizard has a fun album from TeenBeat available for download on bandcamp, and there are a couple of great post-punk-type singles by Friends for dirt cheap from the Lucky Number label on the site as well.)

This being the hub for all things Steven R. Smith (formerly of Mirza, Thuja, Hala Straana and solo artist). His latest OLD SKETE is a must-listen for rustic drone types.

And thanks for the kind words WRT The Rowell Incident upthread. There will probably be some more solo synth/drone stuff going up in the nearish future.

I'm listening to the Airs record that I linked to up above as "shoegaze with black metal elements." There is no black metal in this that I can ascertain. So if that scared you off, have no fear – this is pretty straight up staring at footwear.

i didn't find the sample song scary at all, but maybe the rest is terrifying. i'll find out soon.

La Lechera, Monday, 23 January 2012 23:30 (six years ago) Permalink

Sounds more like soothing ambient than scary to me. I, being Scott Walker, will not be associated with such half-witted muzak. They could have at least punched some pig meat, you know, to show they mean it.

future debts collector (Le Bateau Ivre), Monday, 23 January 2012 23:31 (six years ago) Permalink

That kind of overpowering, claustrophobic drone always gets to me for some reason.

Gamera died for our sins (J3ff T.), Monday, 23 January 2012 23:35 (six years ago) Permalink

Also the little fluttering wings. Do not want.

Gamera died for our sins (J3ff T.), Monday, 23 January 2012 23:36 (six years ago) Permalink

It seems to lean a lot on effects, like the wind blowing over an icy polar landscape. But I do like it, yes.

future debts collector (Le Bateau Ivre), Monday, 23 January 2012 23:37 (six years ago) Permalink

at least once I've streamed something on BC a couple of times and then been informed I couldn't anymore without purchasing the album--not sure how standard that is though

rob, Monday, 30 April 2018 18:13 (one month ago) Permalink

The artist/label can set that, I'm pretty sure.

Also DJs still need downloads, which is why I really like Bandcamp for dance music.

change display name (Jordan), Monday, 30 April 2018 18:35 (one month ago) Permalink

Ok then but what I don't like is that you cannot download single songs (or can you?). On the other hand I like the album approach (in theory). I am torn in between the past and present.

Ich bin kein Berliner (alex in mainhattan), Monday, 30 April 2018 19:26 (one month ago) Permalink

You can! Just click on the track and it should open its own page, with a track-level price.

Although I have seen some jazz artists in particular making power moves where only a couple of the tracks are streaming, and so you have to buy the album to hear the rest.

change display name (Jordan), Monday, 30 April 2018 19:57 (one month ago) Permalink

Why does anyone pay for any of the music if everything - I ever saw on there - was streamable for free?

because they care about the artist

Hazy Maze Cave (Adam Bruneau), Monday, 30 April 2018 22:53 (one month ago) Permalink

i mean why leave money in the hat of a street performer? you could use that money to pay your comcast bill. im sure they will appreciate it just as much.

Hazy Maze Cave (Adam Bruneau), Monday, 30 April 2018 23:00 (one month ago) Permalink

one month passes...

BC has lossless album downloads (my preferred listening). I buy an album and support an artist I like rather than giving money to marketers.

Elvis Telecom, Monday, 18 June 2018 06:27 (yesterday) Permalink

I wish Bandcamp would offer Chromecast support. They claimed it was in the offing a couple of years ago but still nothing.
