I keep hearing reports that the Bucs are talking with Brad Childress. If they hire him, I'll never watch another Bucs game again.

In three moves, they'll have gone from Dungy to Chilly and they'll deserve whatever fate they meet.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 9 January 2012 15:53 (twelve years ago) link

i liked Chilly in Minnesota. just a perfect team/HC combo, a hapless team that always fucks up in the end with a coach that the players don't like who constantly sets his team up to fail. this just doesn't seem right :(

spagnuolo return to philly to be confirmed this week. 2012 already looking much better for eagles.

never, ever, ever, ever, ever change oakland

Raiders fired Hue Jackson. More on ESPN.

They already brought in a gm.

Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 18:47 (twelve years ago) link

And he's going to hire his own guy.

polyphonic, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 18:47 (twelve years ago) link

basically what needs to happen here is oakland needs to release every qb on their roster besides terrelle pryor, they need to hire chip kelly and draft lamichael james

my work here is done

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 10 January 2012 18:47 (twelve years ago) link

What the Raiders need to do is pretty simple:

1. Fire John Herrera
2. Profit

polyphonic, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 18:48 (twelve years ago) link

I'm so fucking tired of this bullshit. I give up.

Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 18:49 (twelve years ago) link

i mean yeah, it's a pain in the ass, but is hue really a big loss?

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 18:50 (twelve years ago) link

didn't jackson go off the deep and say something about how now that al is dead he runs the raiders? tbh, everyone tainted by signing off on that carson palmer trade needs to be dropped in the shark tank

Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 18:50 (twelve years ago) link

hue seemed like a pretty solid coach to me

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 10 January 2012 18:51 (twelve years ago) link

Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 18:52 (twelve years ago) link

if gruden goes back there i'm moving to the bay

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 10 January 2012 18:53 (twelve years ago) link

I had no problem with him as head coach. Raiders under Hue were the closest thing to a team they've been in 10 years & the fact that there was even playoff *talk* was partly due to him.

Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 18:54 (twelve years ago) link

the carson trade was batty but that team is going in the right direction imo

i mean they certainly could hire a better coach, but they also could not

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 10 January 2012 18:55 (twelve years ago) link

Just curious: Did you guys watch the last half of the season at all?

polyphonic, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 18:56 (twelve years ago) link

Yep. But can we have a fucking coach for more than 2 seasons, just to SEE what that's like? Breznahan was a bigger problem than Jackson, surely.

Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 18:58 (twelve years ago) link

The bit at the end of the season where he said that he could finally admit that his players played like shit was very telling. The dude is kind of Singletary-esque.

The penalties this season were out of control. The talent was getting better, not the culture.

polyphonic, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 18:59 (twelve years ago) link

He was not even close to Singletaryesqueness, imo

Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 19:01 (twelve years ago) link

hue's a solid coach but he seemed to be going mad with power. better to start fresh, the new GM seems to have a good background and im sure they can find someone

maghrib is back (Hungry4Ass), Tuesday, 10 January 2012 19:02 (twelve years ago) link

Breznahan was a bigger problem than Jackson, surely.

And he's also gone. McKenzie is going to get this right if Mark Davis and Herrera don't undermine him.

Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 19:05 (twelve years ago) link

unless hue turned into kim jong-il behind the scenes i would've given him next season to prove that things were permanently going the right way. this cycle can't be good for the franchise.

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 10 January 2012 19:05 (twelve years ago) link

Their blackness is irrelevant to me. Tom Cable was also a clown. Singletary did some very good things with the 49ers and so did Jackson with the Raiders. But neither are head coaches imo

polyphonic, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 19:06 (twelve years ago) link

tom cable was a wife-beating clown iirc

horseshoe, Tuesday, 10 January 2012 19:07 (twelve years ago) link

The 49ers defense is what it is today because of Singletary. Similarly Jackson did a good job of modernizing the Raiders offense.

Chuck Knox was smart enough to start wearing a hat when he was going bald. Possibly added a decade to his career.

Landry also was wise enough to wear a hat to maintain respect of team.

Can't recall a more disastrous trade for a club than the Kevin Kolb deal has been for Arizona. Just catastrophic for that club.

k3vin k., Friday, 31 August 2012 21:29 (eleven years ago) link

i am just repeating what i have read elsewhere, but supposedly kolb isn't bad, he's just a horrible fit for their offense and always was. but, eagles surely knew all about him and never thought twice about him being a long term starting option, certainly by the time they moved him.

Roberto Spiralli, Friday, 31 August 2012 21:32 (eleven years ago) link

it would be hilarious if the cardinals went through all this w/ kolb then released him only to see him be competent for, like, the texans or something

young money color me badd (J0rdan S.), Friday, 31 August 2012 21:32 (eleven years ago) link

i guess he would work best with possession and inside receivers, i.e. fitz totally wasted on him. so maybe someone like the titans could make something out of him? i bet he could do a cassel type job if brady died, moreso than mallett, who actually might be more use for someone like the cards, with his downfield arm that the pats can't really make use of.

it is certainly possible, though, that the real problem is he is a bit shit

yeah, worst team in league almost def
― Roberto Spiralli, Friday, August 31, 2012

i would venture that the jags, minus mjd, is the worst team in the league

This cad needs a cordial introduction to Eugene of Oxbow. (forksclovetofu), Saturday, 1 September 2012 17:37 (eleven years ago) link

well for jax it all hinges on gabbert. if he gets that 2nd year bump and can put in a half decent showing he has a couple new wide receivers and a decent TE to target. obviously they have a long way to go on that side of the ball as i think they were last in the league last year even with mjd, but even a middling offense together with similar production from what was one of the better nfl defenses last year, and it's not too crazy to think they might scrape a winning record from somewhere. you definitely can't put any kind of scenario like that together for arizona. plus jax surely aren't even the worst team in their division, they have to do better than indy.

Roberto Spiralli, Saturday, 1 September 2012 20:28 (eleven years ago) link

i watched some video on the phoenix newspaper website (i was looking for conspiracy theories about what philadelphia knew + when) where they were discussing who cards should start at QB (this was before they went w/ skeletor over kolb). anyway, they have this few minute long discussion weighing pros and cons of each and then one is like: "between these two choices, and the rest of the talent on the team, does it really matter who they go with in the end?" and the other person was like "no, that's a good point. it really doesn't make any difference to the cardinals season."

Mordy, Saturday, 1 September 2012 21:24 (eleven years ago) link

gabbert was unbelievably bad last season; i'll be v. impressed if he shows anything this year.
