i am grateful for the 'Just Dance' acapella i found on slsk. sounds great over the Kris Menace remix of Moby's 'Ooh Yeah'.

they were a pretty solid singles band for a while there but wooooooow that new one is awful...i'm sure you couldn't find an embeddable version of the actual music video but really worth seeking out to see how bad it is
― some dude, Friday, 9 January 2009 19:45 (fifteen years ago) link
that song's pretty good imo. it's goofy as hell but i like when the crowd comes in on the bridge
― jordan s (J0rdan S.), Friday, 9 January 2009 19:46 (fifteen years ago) link
I've heard it three times this week, and I haven't even been in the car that much.
― Someone Still Loves You Evan and Jaron (Tape Store), Friday, 9 January 2009 19:46 (fifteen years ago) link
hmm you think? i haven't heard it enough to remember more than the chorus but i really hate that chorus.
― some dude, Friday, 9 January 2009 19:46 (fifteen years ago) link
But not as bad as Lady Gaga's EIGHT plays
― Someone Still Loves You Evan and Jaron (Tape Store), Friday, 9 January 2009 19:47 (fifteen years ago) link
The chorus works well blaring in a car, esp. when the crowd kicks in
― Someone Still Loves You Evan and Jaron (Tape Store), Friday, 9 January 2009 19:49 (fifteen years ago) link

― some dude, Friday, 9 January 2009 19:49 (fifteen years ago) link
haha, yes, we have two pop stations here, and i've heard both stations playing it at the same time TWICE this week.
― Someone Still Loves You Evan and Jaron (Tape Store), Friday, 9 January 2009 19:50 (fifteen years ago) link
the radio down here has started to play a "just dance" remix with kardinal offishal. his verse is awesome. i always kind of liked that dude but i was pretty turned off by his akon single
― jordan s (J0rdan S.), Friday, 9 January 2009 19:51 (fifteen years ago) link
gaga is inescapable here too - every station is playing her except the hardcore rap/r&b one
re the rejects song. i don't think it's their best song by any means but i like it cuz of its goofiness. im not usually a proponent of championing a song cuz it's "fun, man!" but it really is a fun song, from the "gives you hell" instead of "give you hell" part to the stadium singing part to the weird for the rejects instrumentation. im not buying it form itunes any time soon but i like it
― jordan s (J0rdan S.), Friday, 9 January 2009 19:54 (fifteen years ago) link
oh, btw jordan, this week, i heard our dude say, "That was Secondhand-uh Ser-EN-ADE, keep it hear locked, we gott Plain White TEEZ and Nickelback. Coldplay kicks it off after tha break"
― Someone Still Loves You Evan and Jaron (Tape Store), Friday, 9 January 2009 19:56 (fifteen years ago) link
I'm going to call in tonight and request "Put On."
i think part of my problem is that i don't even understand the phrase "when you see my face I hope it gives you hell" enough to process it as a chorus that repeats over and over and over
― some dude, Friday, 9 January 2009 20:02 (fifteen years ago) link
haha i hope he cried during the break after saying that
― jordan s (J0rdan S.), Friday, 9 January 2009 20:07 (fifteen years ago) link
the hip-hop/r&b station i listen to actually played "poker face," which was even weirder.

it does sound like a smash hit, but more in the sense of "it sounds like 12 other Max Martin/Dr. Luke tracks that were already smash hits" than being really immediately irresistible.

yeah, he means that slow jam version of "miss independent" with fab
between that and "love in this club part 2" it's looking more and more like a smart move to give remixes different titles so they can get their own chart entry.

― dyao mak'er (The Reverend), Monday, 21 December 2009 00:55 (fourteen years ago) link
i guess you'd get more sympathy if you said hilson was a better artist. her shit is consistently decent-to-good; gaga's is either awful or amazing, & imo "bad romance" is a higher high than "turnin me on" (which i like)
― dumb pl4nk (k3vin k.), Monday, 21 December 2009 00:58 (fourteen years ago) link
i dont think my point had anything to do w/ personal preference. gaga is clearly a 'bigger deal' in pop culture, both artists have had some great songs & forks lumping them in w/ jay sean & flo rida was what i was disagreeing with -- that group of artists was on some apples to oranges to bananas to orangutans shit
― deej, Monday, 21 December 2009 01:05 (fourteen years ago) link
I don't think she's generally a very good artist, though. I guess most of her songs are at least decent in isolation (except "Knocks You Down", fuck that song imo), but they all feel so disconnected from each other that it feels like there's no larger point to her. Since her personality is basically completely different on any given song, it all adds up to a personality as indiscernable as if she didn't display any personality anywhere. I've used this phrase elsewhere to describe her, but she's chameleonic to a fault. That said, "Turnin' Me On" just works completely on its own terms.
Lady Gaga, on the other hand, has a consistent persona, and thus seems much easier to latch onto as person. This is a very important thing to superstardom, that fans be able to discern you against your competition and have a set of expectations that can be confirmed or subverted. I just don't like any of her songs as much. ("Paparazzi" is my favorite single of hers so far, and that's more of an "I like it" than an "I love it".)
― dyao mak'er (The Reverend), Monday, 21 December 2009 01:15 (fourteen years ago) link
I like "Turnin' Me On" and was really excited about it when it first dropped, but it really is not that great when you get down to it imo.
― some dude, Monday, 21 December 2009 01:47 (fourteen years ago) link
I would've agreed with all your points about Gaga before hearing "Bad Romance," kinda have to adjust all my gripes about her to some degree now that she has a song I love.
― some dude, Monday, 21 December 2009 01:48 (fourteen years ago) link
I intended all my points about Gaga to be more or less neutral (other than not liking her songs as much, but that's just completely my opinion and unimportant to what else I was saying about her), so I'm not sure how liking a song of hers or not affects them.
― dyao mak'er (The Reverend), Monday, 21 December 2009 01:58 (fourteen years ago) link
yeah as much as i'm more predisposed to liking hilson, i kind of have to admit that there's a lot more point to gaga as an artist. and tbh gaga probably has more songs i really love now, what with her upping her game considerably on the fame monster.
