I was sold on Vibrams before they started falling apart from constantly washing the reek out. Current recomendation: Merrell Barefoot Trail gloves. Vibram designed minimal sole, but good traction on wet grass, and you can wear socks.

Sorry bout the huge image, the preview was much smaller. Also, I inadvertantly posted the image of the True Glove, rather than the Trail Glove, which gets the better reviews.

Braised some mustard greens with my kale last night. A+. Greens rule!

Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 18 November 2011 20:21 (twelve years ago) link

totally!

i actually started keeping some kale in the fridge at work to mix into my soups at lunch! i will basically add kale to anything! also whenever i make any hot dish that's traditionally served w/ rice i have taken to serving it over baby spinach or kale.

tehresa, Friday, 18 November 2011 23:44 (twelve years ago) link

i can't remember if this was posted already but here is a good nutritional label maker, la lechera: http://recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-calculator.asp.

i'm now on this myfitnesspal thing to see if it'll help me be a bit more focused and disciplined about what i eat.

just1n3, Sunday, 20 November 2011 00:52 (twelve years ago) link

i'm looking at it and i like it except i don't think i have the self-discipline to put my own recipes in. it looks more convenient for people who don't cook at all.

tunnel joe (harbl), Sunday, 20 November 2011 00:57 (twelve years ago) link

it wasn't too bad - the annoying thing is the quantities, because some of the listings will only say "grams" or "cups", which is a pain if you've been using tablespoons or whatever

just1n3, Sunday, 20 November 2011 01:00 (twelve years ago) link

yeah, it's not really that bad. i eat the same thing for breakfast every day anyway so i just saved it, and i repeat recipes a lot anyway.

I just bought some amaranth. Does anyone have any good recipes?

Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 5 February 2012 02:07 (twelve years ago) link

You can use it in practically any recipe for quinoa, with no alterations. I don't know if amaranth requires a wash, as quinoa is reported to.

Sanpaku, Sunday, 5 February 2012 02:33 (twelve years ago) link

I think I will rinse it anyway, just to be on the safe side. Thanks Sanpaku!

tehresa, Saturday, 10 March 2012 16:23 (twelve years ago) link

fine i'll start the thread

kim tim jim investor (harbl), Saturday, 10 March 2012 16:27 (twelve years ago) link

thanks, harbl

I am going to visit a gym today! Not to work out, mind you, but to see if I there is any possibility that I might actually show up were I to join.

Also going to the farmer's market, which should help on the nutritional front.

Already, T, let's do a daily check-in on the new thread to keep us motivated and, er, accountable.

quincie, Saturday, 10 March 2012 16:36 (twelve years ago) link

sweet. i generally do fine for breakfast/lunch but dinners with nutrition-indiscriminate bf is killing me.

tehresa, Saturday, 10 March 2012 16:39 (twelve years ago) link

i also think that for me if i don't exercise enough, it doesn't matter how healthy i eat. i will be fat. so. more gym for me.
