I beat every level of pathpix and then got the much harder PATHPIX PRO which is, well, much harder. Burnt out about thirty levels in.

(Although I think I played this on DS before, maybe as part of a multi-puzzle game? Can't quite remember. But it was definitely trickier then, I think maybe because it didn't have different lines in different colours).

so.... jetpack joyride...

I didn't think it was as fun as Super Quick Hook or a bunch of other runners, so I deleted it.
― polyphonic, Wednesday, 11 January 2012 00:22 (twelve years ago) link
i beat it three times so i guess i liked it?

You can beat it? It's nowhere near Temple Run.
― lost ai weiwei (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 11 January 2012 02:47 (twelve years ago) link
i dig it
― Nhex, Wednesday, 11 January 2012 04:04 (twelve years ago) link
Jesus I was at level 8 or 9 and then the game crashed and deleted all my progress!!
― lost ai weiwei (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 11 January 2012 04:56 (twelve years ago) link
you can beat it multiple times, yes.
― Beezow Doo Doo Zopittybop-Bop Bop (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 11 January 2012 05:28 (twelve years ago) link
Beating jetpack joyride means getting all the achievement things and starting again though, right? Not "going more than x metres". I kind of hated it but played it loads anyway, and now I kind of hate temple run but am playing that loads anyway.
Tried I Dig It too, it feels kind of unlosable once you know how it works (and you can work that out pretty much instantly). The first proper story mission dragged out over 3 separate 30 minute play sessions until I just got bored and gave up.

I saw someone on the train playing Grand Theft Auto 3, which astounded me - I had bought it and fired it up, and it's an amazing technical achievement and obviously the original is top 10 of all time so there was a massive Proustian rush and all, but the actual iPhone controls seemed to make it completely unplayable.

So was pocket league any good?
― Mordy, Monday, 6 February 2012 22:00 (twelve years ago) link
The usual, more or less – it's the style I prefer – more like Game Dev and Grand Prix Stories than mall/academy. Fairly easy and so many carry-overs, though, that it becomes a walkover at some point, and the matches are unskippable – tedious to sit through one 11-0 victory after another. But I got 2.5 fixated playthroughs out of it, so no complaints.

Also has pushed me to the point of lunacy where I'm curious to know more about the lives and origins of King Akbar, Chimpan Z, Grizzly Bearington and Kairobot.

Really looking forward to getting off work and playing the just released iOS port of Eufloria (iPad only), which is sort of a cross between the ambient gaming of Osmos and the RTS genre:
"Eufloria is a game of space, conquest, and exploration based on themes of plant life and flowers rather than space marines and spaceships."
Graphically, it's stunning:

ttr pocket is perfectly playable
not sure async is such a boon; games only take about 15 mins
turns are so shot it would maybe feel a bit stilted async
― john terje (cozen), Thursday, 9 February 2012 23:30 (twelve years ago) link
short*
Couldn't work out how to make it asynchronous anyway but I just beat cozen IN REAL TIME.
― JimD, Thursday, 9 February 2012 23:32 (twelve years ago) link
it just goes async automatically I think
if you close the app after initiating a game you get alerts when it's your turn
