These guys were involved in Remote Viewer as well, right? Was into the first RV album in college.

both the RV guys were in Hood at one point but their main other thing was Famous Boyfriend

Sebastian, do you own the Singles Compiled cd's? Hood recently placed a message on their website that they found some more copies (it's been OOP for some years now) and they are indeed dead cheap, as they put it. A steal, and a mighty good one imo.

Y Kant Lou Reed (Le Bateau Ivre), Monday, 14 November 2011 09:02 (six years ago) Permalink

@Le Bateau Ivre: yeah, I own those two (and love them dearly). I own everything by the band, except Structured Disasters, which I think is the perfect mix of old and new Hood. Impossible to find in hard copy though. Last time I saw it on eBay it sold for way above $100.

"Useless" is actually my least favourite track from the Domino years.

djh, Tuesday, 15 November 2011 20:30 (six years ago) Permalink

Not sure if this can be applied:

"To spread a little good tidings, or good cheer, or, actually, GOOD MUSIC we're offering 20% off all orders on the Domino Shop from now until the end of the year.

The holiday discount applies to all physical orders (CD/LP/Cassette) over £8.99/$10.00. Oh, and no pre-orders allowed, we're sure you understand.

To take advantage just visit http://dominorecordco.com/mart and enter the code HOLIDAY2011 at checkout."

tubbs farkas (electricsound), Thursday, 17 November 2011 22:25 (six years ago) Permalink

But by 06/12/11 it won't be a "pre-order".

Been enjoying the dip back into all these -- will be reviewing the box set for Pitchfork.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 31 January 2012 17:54 (five years ago) Permalink

I look forward to that read, Ned. I'm still hoping for a separate pressing of The Hood Tapes. Seems a bit much to invest in the entire set when I already own everything else.

doug watson, Tuesday, 31 January 2012 20:04 (five years ago) Permalink

Looking forward to that too, Ned, very much!

I agree with Doug Watson though, I won't shell out for this because I own everything apart from the Hood Tapes already. The singles and compilations compiled from some years ago were brilliant.

future debts collector (Le Bateau Ivre), Tuesday, 31 January 2012 21:07 (five years ago) Permalink

hood tapes isn't essential; let me know if you really need to hear it.

akm, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 03:05 (five years ago) Permalink

I've an "unofficial" version of the 2005 CDR but apparently the boxset version is expanded. They should just bandcamp the thing.

doug watson, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 13:41 (five years ago) Permalink

@hoodmusic tweeted earlier something along the lines of "apparently we're reissuing Cold House on vinyl soon". Domino website says the box will be in shops in March- maybe there'll be a download of the Tapes then. I'd like a legit download of Useless.

Les Tressle (useless chamber), Wednesday, 1 February 2012 13:50 (five years ago) Permalink

When I'd read about a deluxe edition of Cold House, I'd interpreted it as an expanded CD set. I'll be sad if it's only some 180g vinyl version.

doug watson, Wednesday, 1 February 2012 13:59 (five years ago) Permalink

‘Cold House’ is repressed for the first time in a ltd edition of 500 for the world as a double gatefold lp cut at 45 rpm for maximum audiophile pleasure and also comes with exclusive liner notes to the vinyl edition and download codes.

Super Receptor (Barnaby, Hardly), Wednesday, 1 February 2012 14:36 (five years ago) Permalink

that is awesome and i will buy it

Les Tressle (useless chamber), Friday, 17 February 2012 10:49 (five years ago) Permalink

Kinda annoyed that I pre-ordered this from the label and paid £24 only to find that it's £15 in both Boomkat and Norman Records this week.

Super Receptor (Barnaby, Hardly), Friday, 17 February 2012 10:57 (five years ago) Permalink

that's my review fyi, thx mayne

£15 for the whole box?? or are you talking about 'Cold House' on vinyl

(press release said RRP of £50 for the box but I couldn't find anywhere actually selling it for that much)

Sylv_ebanks (DJ Mencap), Friday, 17 February 2012 11:12 (five years ago) Permalink

Ah, sorry, I was talking about the Cold House reissue.

Super Receptor (Barnaby, Hardly), Friday, 17 February 2012 12:38 (five years ago) Permalink

ha, it seemed implausibly cheap but £24 seems wildly expensive for vinyl that isn't private press so there you go

Sylv_ebanks (DJ Mencap), Friday, 17 February 2012 12:51 (five years ago) Permalink

Okay! So my Pitchfork review is up:

Quite enjoying The Declining Winter's "Lost Tapes". Undecided whether the decision for it to be released as a cassette and as a collection of demos rather than a "proper" album is a bit like waving a little white flag or honest. The blurry (non) production suits it, though.

djh, Friday, 27 December 2013 21:04 (three years ago) Permalink

I'm hoping it'll eventually appear on TDW's bandcamp page, as has now happened for Fragment #5. A very new song "Season Without" is also up there now.

doug watson, Saturday, 28 December 2013 02:50 (three years ago) Permalink

Also, $12US to ship a cassette tape to Canada from the US? I'll shed no further tears for the death of physical media.

good album

akm, Tuesday, 12 August 2014 22:34 (three years ago) Permalink

Oh, have pre-ordered copies already shipped?

There was a positive review of the new album in Fluid Radio this week. The author managed to avoid any comparisons to Hood, which was refreshing. As much as I've used the Hood association to explore similar projects (e.g., both Sierpinski albums are en route to my mailbox as I write this), it's encouraging to see these new efforts judged on their own merits.

doug watson, Wednesday, 13 August 2014 13:14 (three years ago) Permalink

Cold House has been on my list for like 8 years and I still have yet to ever see a cd or download of it for sale

before you die you see the rink (Jon Lewis), Wednesday, 13 August 2014 18:39 (three years ago) Permalink

You can get it for six quid from Norman Records.

I think the Domino Records stock of Cold House got destroyed in that warehouse fire.

djh, Wednesday, 13 August 2014 18:48 (three years ago) Permalink

there was a vinyl repress of cold house a few years ago. but that album is not difficult to find.

the sierpinski albums were great. matt robson was a cool guy. wonder where he's at these days.

akm, Wednesday, 13 August 2014 19:48 (three years ago) Permalink

Akm, how've you heard this already?

Looking forward to it, their first album was great too.

Seeing this thread pop up again though, how I still miss Hood.

I've only heard the 4 streaming tracks, not the full thing.

akm, Wednesday, 13 August 2014 20:24 (three years ago) Permalink

So the Sierpinski albums have arrived and I'm siding with akm on their merits. These are excellent, especially Evening Water Project.

doug watson, Thursday, 14 August 2014 17:56 (three years ago) Permalink

New Memory Drawings is up on spotify. Nothing shocking on first listen, just very consistently good, like the last one.

Obviously, all this side project nonsense should be ignored for now ... It's "The Cycle of Days and Seasons" season.

djh, Friday, 14 November 2014 20:17 (three years ago) Permalink

Cheers for the reminder, djh. (Although the Bracken and Great Panoptique Winter discs are also both excellent.)

doug watson, Friday, 14 November 2014 23:42 (three years ago) Permalink

Yes, thanks djh, and you are right! Barely know records that are so suitable to crawl up in the darkness to, with the wind and rain battering outside. Embracing northern grimness and misery. Rustic Houses feels more late summer-ish, Cold House is for when it gets below zero imho.
