That's a couple floors higher than me, I think, but is pretty much the view from our "break room" which is really just large cubicle with a microwave in it.

I really do talk about this building too much. Sorry.

Likes: The Thompson Center, Dress Barn, Cobb salads
Dislikes: Two-faced people, static cling, nausea

Jenny, Thursday, 29 November 2007 20:18 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah, that's open, too - no glass, so if I get overwhelmed with the hopelessness of it all one day while I'm waiting for my pop corn to pop, I can just jump right over.

Jenny, Thursday, 29 November 2007 20:19 (sixteen years ago) link

i used to transfer there everyday, from the green line to the blue line.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 29 November 2007 20:28 (sixteen years ago) link

that happened in the Federal Building in milwaukee where my friend worked (suicide via atrium)

Somebody took a dive in Marshall Fields not too long ago. I'm sure somebody has killed him/herself here at some point although I've been unable to find anything about it.

Okay, that is your daily update from Clark and Lake.

Jenny out.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 29 November 2007 20:59 (sixteen years ago) link

ugh, jenny i'm there with you on the static hate. for the past month, pretty much anytime i touch ANYTHING or ANYONE, there's a huge shock. it's so annoying, and kind of embarrassing to meet someone, shake hands and have them recoil in pain. WTF is up with this? can i do anything about it?

jaymc, i'm printing your crosswords and saving them for jan-march when my bosses are gone for 2 months and i have no work to do at work...it's nice to have something fun to look forward to in that time!

colette, Thursday, 29 November 2007 21:04 (sixteen years ago) link

p.s. killing yourself inside marshall fields seems way more wrong to me than killing yourself in the thompson center. DEATH BY DRESS BARN!

So it looks like the good Dr. and myself and hopefully a few other peeps will be hitting the Small Bar on Division tomorrow. I know it's probably gonna be really cold, but if anyone feels like coming out, the more the merrier. Last year on my bday I was at a bar trivia and we named ourselves the Stingies for that night, but when we surprisingly won a round the host (purposefully) called our name out as the Stingles (rhymes with Pringles), and continued for the rest of the night. Then all my friends started calling me Stingle for a little bit. I'm hoping tomorrow lives up to that.

Sorry if these are not as much fun for everyone as they are for me, but I think they're awesome.

The location here should be obvious - Block 37 is on the upper left.

Jesse, Thursday, 29 November 2007 21:59 (sixteen years ago) link

Or whatever. It's where the TWA sign is.

Jesse, Thursday, 29 November 2007 22:00 (sixteen years ago) link

Ah, TWA. Such a different time.

KitCat, Thursday, 29 November 2007 22:09 (sixteen years ago) link

i am expected to work 9-5 on saturday and 9-9 (12 hrs) on monday!

deej, Thursday, 29 November 2007 22:30 (sixteen years ago) link

Thanks, J-man.

What is Block 37, anyway? I run across that term every so often, mostly having to do with CTA construction. What does it mean?

jaymc, Thursday, 29 November 2007 22:35 (sixteen years ago) link

Wait, I just found a website called "Google" that can find me the answer to that question.

dan m, Thursday, 29 November 2007 22:43 (sixteen years ago) link

one of these things is not like the other, etc

dan m, Thursday, 29 November 2007 22:43 (sixteen years ago) link

I still can't find out why it is called "Block 37."

jaymc, Thursday, 29 November 2007 22:53 (sixteen years ago) link

Even though I now know that it's that construction zone across from Marshall Field's.

jaymc, Thursday, 29 November 2007 22:53 (sixteen years ago) link

Wikipedia says it is one of the original 58 blocks of the city. So I'm guessing they refer to neighboring ones as 36, 38, and so on? No idea which way they're organized.

dan m, Thursday, 29 November 2007 22:58 (sixteen years ago) link

jaymc, Thursday, 29 November 2007 23:03 (sixteen years ago) link

OK that's really cool. I love that site.

dan m, Thursday, 29 November 2007 23:07 (sixteen years ago) link

There's a book called "here's the deal" that is all about block 37.

jaymc, Thursday, 29 November 2007 23:28 (sixteen years ago) link

Huh. I didn't know why it was called Block 37.

There is going to be a ton of retail, glass-front TV studio, condos, and hyperdupermega CTA station.
