Feeling less confident about VA now - Montgomery is mostly in and Webb has barely won there (51-48). It's Allen by 5,000 with 69% in but, here we go again, the CNN exit polls have been "adjusted" so that Allen edges it by less than 1%. Same frustrations as 2004, where CNN exit polls changed as the evening went on, often swinging by more than the additional number of respondents could likely account for. (Never mind the fact I thought exit polls were supposed to be one-shot affairs).

American election coverage is always a disappointment after seeing BBC coverage of the last UK race. Britishes do it with flair.

milo z (mlp), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 02:17 (seventeen years ago) link

the VA results aren't meaningful yet - they've only counted half of NoVA

Florida is moving back in our direction, but my Charlie Stuart sleeper pick fails to transpire.

uh you guys, Johnette Napolitano is now governor of Arizona

she's been governor of AZ for 4 years

Joey, baby - dont get crazy
Detours. fences... I get defensive
I know you've heard it all before -
So I dont say it anymore
I just stand by and watch you
Fight your secret war.
Although I used to wonder why -
I used to cry till I was dry.
Still sometimes I get a strange pain
Inside
Oh, joey, if youre hurting so am i.

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 02:22 (seventeen years ago) link

Now here's a defeatist attitude:

Republican Ken Blackwell conceded the race for [Ohio] governor to [Dem. Ted] Strickland before a single vote was counted.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 02:24 (seventeen years ago) link

Ned can we not revel in wide margins? Just say it. "IT'S THE SPITZAAHHHHH"

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 02:25 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh, that's all right, then.

Allen now has a 23,000-vote lead with 78% reporting in VA but, scanning the breakdown, Webb has gains of around 15-17,000 coming his way from some of those northern counties. There are still more that can't be trended yet because they haven't returned a single precinct.

(I am doing this all in my head and my margin of error is fuckin' massive).

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 02:32 (seventeen years ago) link

Here in Florida Negron and Mahoney are in a dead heat; Klein has a razor-thin lead over Clay Shaw.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn (Alfred Soto), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 02:32 (seventeen years ago) link

my district: Republican leading Dem 51-49, with about half of districts reporting. grr.

bitch i served last night who claimed to be Rep candidate's niece: this isn't over yet.

I'm pretty sure Klein wins. Mahoney will be down to the wire. But it looks like Jennings didn't close the deal in the 13th.

I'm feeling secure on Webb - we're still waiting on half of Arlington and Loudoun and 1/3 of Richmond city.

MD Gov called for O'Malley.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn (Alfred Soto), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 02:38 (seventeen years ago) link

The teeth-gnashing begins:

Party labels aside, Chafee deserved to lose more than any other incumbent. What a lousy senator, a man who is utterly unpredictable because he has no real beliefs.

Bob Shamansky in OH-12 at 49% with 1/3 in, but it's looking like Wulsin just wasn't a strong enough contender in the 2nd (the call I was least confident of).

Marmot (marmotwolof), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 02:44 (seventeen years ago) link

My exit poll frustrations explained by pollster.com:

The NEP analysts are gradually replacing the exit poll talleys in each precinct with actual votes from that precinct. They are also beginning to fill out a second and larger sample of precincts from which they gather hard votes At any given time, they adjust the exit poll tabulations (displayed on CNN) to match the current estimate considred most reliable.

Then it's not a bloody exit poll is it? Serves me right for looking at them - no more tonight.

Allen up by 26,000 - I know Richmond City and Arlington aren't fully in yet, but I don't think Webb has the numbers to turn it round in the last 18% of precincts. This reminds me of looking at the Ohio figures two years ago.

I'll go as far as 95% of VA precincts reporting and then go to bed. Pleasant surprise in the morning, please.
