um, Sarah, James Brown's "Try Me" is 1958. 1965 is when he recorded "I Got You (I Feel Good)" and "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag," though.

I didn't notice it charting in '58, but according to AMG, "Try Me" also reached #63 in the pop singles chart and #34 in the black singles chart in 1965. Was it a re-release or a different version?

"Papa's Got A Brand New Bag, Part 1" should probably replace it. I like both songs a lot and had trouble choosing between them.

a re-release, maybe. or possibly a live version. but yeah, "Papa" is the choice here.

fantastic track list! i was worried about how much overlap there'd be between yours and mine but there's not that much (zombies, turtles, byrds, stones, dylan).

The version of "Try Me" that charted in '65 was the organ instrumental re-recording, on Smash.
