oh word? I had been keeping that one in the back of my mind to grab at a later date

one year passes...

Darkstalkers rule! I've only managed to play one of the games proper in the last week, after finding Darkstalkers 3 in a shop that had a big stock of previous-generation (mostly Megadrive, SNES and PS1) games.

Sometimes I wonder how well Eternal Champions holds up. I loved it when it came out, but I can't help but wonder if part of my affection was influenced by the massive hype surrounding it (in some magazines at least). It had some cool characters and a ton of gimmicks, but the actual gameplay was perhaps clunky at times.

I've been playing Capcom Fighting Collection this past few weeks; it maybe feels a bit pricey for what it is (esp. since some of the games have been released separately already!) but you know what? I've already gotten my money's worth. Because Darkstalkers does indeed still rule. As does Pocket Fighter, where Chun-Li transforms into Jill Valentine when doing an attack combo!

It also includes Red Earth, a really weird fighting game/RPG boss-run hybrid that never got a console release before. There's some really beautiful sprite work in these mid-to-late 90s Capcom games. From what I remember, a lot of the PS1/Saturn era magazines didn't really appreciate this much, since they were all "3D! 3D! 3D!"

I am about a nanosecond away from updating my PS+ subscription because I found an updated version of Darkstalkers: Night Warriors in the game library I can’t access yet

I think Darkstalkers 1-3 (the latter under it's original title, Vampire Saviour) are all available pretty cheap as part of some Capcom Arcade thing

All this 2D fighter gaming got me hankering for Marvel vs Capcom 2, so I hauled my PS2 out from the attic, got everything set up and.... it no longer worked :(

The new comp also has Cyberbots, a giant robot-themed fighter; I haven't gotten into it, but it's provided yet another example of "Oh, so THAT'S where that guy in MvC2 came from...."
