I recommend Marc Anthony's "Lucy In The Sky Of Diamonds" from this shindig if you're hungry for more godawful after.

Hey, why did the guy stop working with Robert Quine? Dude was a great foil.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 2 November 2011 23:55 (twelve years ago) link

He always ends up hating his collaborators. He can't share the limelight. Oh wait.

quine and reed had a pretty major falling out after reed mixed him off of Legendary Hearts.
quine has some of the best/funniest bits in the Transformer bio.

Hey, he did a little Al Pacino "hoo-ha!" in there, at the 2:40 mark.

Musically, the first week and a half was really great, out of the four years.

OK, that Marc Antony Lucy not so hot, but didn't hate it. People should check out the Eddie Palmieri version of "You Never Give Me Your Money" to see how it's really done.

"They are my metal blood brothers," Reed claimed. "No one wants Lulu Part 2, but on Radio Lou, in my head where I hear these songs, I want more of it.

ILX wants Lulu Part 2, Lou!

Just got it, finally. And . . . shit. I'm kind of liking it. It's really weird, kind of funny, and delusioinal and demented.

Lou Reed's New York Shuffle with Hal Wilner
Saturdays midnight ET
Hear music that runs the gamut from jazz to vintage rock. As Lou says, “I’ve always been a fan of eclectic radio. I loved the days when DJs who did their own programming set the bar high.“ Lou co-hosts the show with record producer Hal Willner, his recent collaborator on the concert film Berlin.

I really do wonder if, when Lou's pulling sounds out of the amorphous mass of free jazz, doo-wop and trebly guitar in his mind, if he hears a crotchety old man pitching all over the place.

da croupier, Thursday, 3 November 2011 15:12 (twelve years ago) link

The reception to this album has been remarkably ageist.

This is the same wondering I do whenever I hear Peter Bogdanovich go on and on about Hawks and Hitchcock and then watch his own latest directorial offering.

IT'S ON NOW:

Darren Aronofsky will direct a music video from the new Metallica and Lou Reed album, "Lulu."

The Oscar-nominated director of "Black Swan" and "The Wrestler" will produce a video for the track, "Iced Honey." Aronofsky brings his cameraman, Matthew Libatique, to the project as director of photography. The clip will be shot in the San Francisco Bay area and will be available for viewing later this month.

Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich said Thursday that working with Reed and Aronofsky is "living the dream."

And the avant-garde Reed said he hopes the video can be "his Black Swan."

Quick, we need to do the video to either of our "Iced Honey" tracks first.
