"Separations" is my least favourite Pulp album. "Love Is Blind" sounds inspired, the rest of side one is for the most part brutal. Side two is OK if you crave the novelty factor of hearing Pulp doing dance music.

Lex would it be possible for you to post the results in bold, as I‘m checking them on my phone and it would be easier.

Thanking you!

A lot of Pulp songs seem pretty dance-y to me, so I guess it's hard for me to think of side two of Separations as a novelty. I've always thought of Death II as the older brother to Death Goes to the Disco and She's A Lady.

!Alicia!, Monday, 31 October 2011 17:21 (twelve years ago) link

I think Separations was the next one I was able to pick up after Different Class, so it also feels pretty "normal" to me. It's actually my favourite! I think I like it because it wasn't as polished..

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Monday, 31 October 2011 17:23 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah, I like that too. It's a little dirtier and darker. I actually didn't hear it until ten years after it came out! I realized what I'd been missing right away.

!Alicia!, Monday, 31 October 2011 17:28 (twelve years ago) link

yeah! I never did unpack my CDs to burn that one, I'm missing out (thank God for Youtube!). Too cheap to buy it again on iTunes, heh..

is everyone gone for lunch or is this image too horrifying to consider?

I think I like it because it wasn't as polished..

When I'm in the mood for "unpolished" Pulp, I listen to "Freaks".

"Separations" was their "return" album after being on hiatus for a few years, so you'd think it'd be a perfect chance to revamp their style and do something new ... which turned out to be a side-length flirtation with post-acid house dance music (a couple of years after that would have been an interesting or daring move for an indie band to make) and a side of stuff that sounded virtually the same as what they'd been doing in the mid-80's. I don't know, I've never "gotten" "Separations".

NoTimeBeforeTime, Monday, 31 October 2011 17:39 (twelve years ago) link

hmmm, I should tally up how many votes ended up going to each album - quick glance doesn't show a lot of Freaks, though I voted for at least one track.. as did a few others. Freaks is for when I feel sketchy.. Separations for when I feel frisky.

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Monday, 31 October 2011 17:42 (twelve years ago) link

I'd bet on "Freaks" finishing last!

I'm guessing DC > Hardcore > HnH > WLL > Separations > It > Freaks

(discounting compilations like "Intro")

NoTimeBeforeTime, Monday, 31 October 2011 17:45 (twelve years ago) link

I aim to publish all results today, so tonight if I get around to it I'll tally it all up for one last blast of Pulp ranking!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Monday, 31 October 2011 17:50 (twelve years ago) link

That ranking is probably pretty accurate, though I like Freaks a great deal more than It. I listen to "I Want You" and "Life Must Be So Wonderful" quite a lot.

I still have no idea about #31!

!Alicia!, Monday, 31 October 2011 17:55 (twelve years ago) link

Bad Cover Version?

encarta it (Gukbe), Monday, 31 October 2011 17:55 (twelve years ago) link

Good guess!

I would imagine that HnH would be more popular than Hardcore.

Juggy Brottleteen (ENBB), Monday, 31 October 2011 17:57 (twelve years ago) link

high five, Gukbe!
I couldn't think of a way to post a real 'cover version' without maybe a Youtube, so I hoped Bad Impersonators would suffice.

coming fast now. #29 is "Wickerman"?

encarta it (Gukbe), Monday, 31 October 2011 18:01 (twelve years ago) link

Already 6 songs I voted for have placed - I really thought I was veering far from the most liked/popular....

I split my votes fairly evenly across the 7 albums

Everything else is secondary (Lee626), Monday, 31 October 2011 18:06 (twelve years ago) link

Is that from a movie, Gukbe? I don't know it :(

Wickerman indeed.. being Canadian, is it sort of like a Burning Man thing? Never heard of it 'til I image-searched, to be honest!

Sunrise the first of mine to place and I'm pretty sure most of them will.

Really didn't get into WLL until hearing them play a few tracks from it this summer. Probably prefer it to HnH at the moment though.

Upt0eleven, Monday, 31 October 2011 18:12 (twelve years ago) link

My choices are all pretty obvious.

Alexis (there's one way to solve your name confusion!) Wickerman is a movie!

Juggy Brottleteen (ENBB), Monday, 31 October 2011 18:13 (twelve years ago) link

Oh and also apparently: A wicker man was a large wicker statue of a human used by the ancient Druids (priests of Celtic paganism) for human sacrifice by burning it in effigy, according to Julius Caesar in his Commentarii de Bello Gallico (Commentary on the Gallic War).[1][2] In modern times the figure has been adopted for festivals as part of some neopagan-themed ceremonies, notably without the human sacrifice element.[3]

^^^ learned

Upt0eleven, Monday, 31 October 2011 18:15 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah! It was quick googling so I thought maybe there is a Wickerman festival like there is a Burning Man one.. I have a headache, no learnin' for me! I did see a few movie stills too.

How about Cucumber? ;p

Juggy Brottleteen (ENBB), Monday, 31 October 2011 18:43 (twelve years ago) link

Total aside but in line with the last post - when you designed my DLand page you had changed the pw to Alexis and when you sent it back to me I never bothered changing it. Eventually, because I was so used to typing it for DLand your name became my default password for email and several other accounts for years afterwards. Hmmmm. That's not as creepy as it might sound. OK back to Pulp - sorry!

Juggy Brottleteen (ENBB), Monday, 31 October 2011 18:47 (twelve years ago) link

hahahahaha! No, that is awesome! I forgot that I used to do that. Man.. so many accounts could have been breached if anyone thought to try "their" password on other sites I designed!

New clue for #28

Ismael Klata, Monday, 31 October 2011 18:53 (twelve years ago) link

hahahahahahahaha. Touche! This song lends itself either to REALLY obvious or really obscure. So I'm gonna go obscure.

"Mis-Shapes"? lol

he carried yellow flowers (DJP), Monday, 31 October 2011 18:53 (twelve years ago) link

Not "Dogs are everywhere" then.

Upt0eleven, Monday, 31 October 2011 19:00 (twelve years ago) link

Nope. Three clues to consider now! These are pictoral representations of lyrics, as the song title is too specific IMO
