Yeah it's a shame! I'll take it on the chin though ;-) Such mesmerising heavenly song

Y Kant Lou Reed (Le Bateau Ivre), Monday, 31 October 2011 16:28 (twelve years ago) link

As I post each song, snippets get stuck in my head and the operatic chorus of Blue Girls is so lovely.. will have to put the proper song on.

in case there is any confusion, still looking for #35:

I love these picture clues. I feel like I'm exercising my brain. Disney Time for #35? (A very Halloween-appropriate picture.)

Minnie Timperley.

Mark G, Monday, 31 October 2011 16:34 (twelve years ago) link

Underrated song imo. Well, I guess any good song on We Love Life feels underrated to me.

As I say, I thought the whole of "We love life" is 1) Underrated 2) possibly the one album I played the most.

COUNTDOWN!

Mark G, Monday, 31 October 2011 16:35 (twelve years ago) link

Oh, I completely forgot about Minnie Timperley! I can't remember if I voted for it, but I'm glad it made it. One of my favorite tracks from that album.

I was going to guess "death goes to the disco" but there's no disco.

I'm cool with being called FFM, I just think of myself as Lex! :)

"Separations" is my least favourite Pulp album. "Love Is Blind" sounds inspired, the rest of side one is for the most part brutal. Side two is OK if you crave the novelty factor of hearing Pulp doing dance music.

no problem!

Thanking you!

The multi-talented F.R. David (Billy Dods), Monday, 31 October 2011 17:16 (twelve years ago) link

A lot of Pulp songs seem pretty dance-y to me, so I guess it's hard for me to think of side two of Separations as a novelty. I've always thought of Death II as the older brother to Death Goes to the Disco and She's A Lady.

!Alicia!, Monday, 31 October 2011 17:21 (twelve years ago) link

I think Separations was the next one I was able to pick up after Different Class, so it also feels pretty "normal" to me. It's actually my favourite! I think I like it because it wasn't as polished..

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Monday, 31 October 2011 17:23 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah, I like that too. It's a little dirtier and darker. I actually didn't hear it until ten years after it came out! I realized what I'd been missing right away.

!Alicia!, Monday, 31 October 2011 17:28 (twelve years ago) link

yeah! I never did unpack my CDs to burn that one, I'm missing out (thank God for Youtube!). Too cheap to buy it again on iTunes, heh..

is everyone gone for lunch or is this image too horrifying to consider?

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Monday, 31 October 2011 17:32 (twelve years ago) link

I think I like it because it wasn't as polished..

When I'm in the mood for "unpolished" Pulp, I listen to "Freaks".

"Separations" was their "return" album after being on hiatus for a few years, so you'd think it'd be a perfect chance to revamp their style and do something new ... which turned out to be a side-length flirtation with post-acid house dance music (a couple of years after that would have been an interesting or daring move for an indie band to make) and a side of stuff that sounded virtually the same as what they'd been doing in the mid-80's. I don't know, I've never "gotten" "Separations".

NoTimeBeforeTime, Monday, 31 October 2011 17:39 (twelve years ago) link

hmmm, I should tally up how many votes ended up going to each album - quick glance doesn't show a lot of Freaks, though I voted for at least one track.. as did a few others. Freaks is for when I feel sketchy.. Separations for when I feel frisky.

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Monday, 31 October 2011 17:42 (twelve years ago) link

I'd bet on "Freaks" finishing last!

I'm guessing DC > Hardcore > HnH > WLL > Separations > It > Freaks

(discounting compilations like "Intro")

NoTimeBeforeTime, Monday, 31 October 2011 17:45 (twelve years ago) link
