- 'secret venue' miles out of town

how far out? I've always been suspicious of these "secret venue" things.

going to Plastic People tonight, first time since they remodeled it. have heard mixed things so will be interesting to see if it's any good.

let me know what it's like temperature-wise - i've been once post-refurbishing, not long after it reopened, and it was like a fucking sauna in there because no one thought to put the air con back in o_0

sounds like a horrible but all too common experience tpp - like ronan i think that's a reason i go raving less, cuz i can't be fucked with that shit any more. this is why i don't go to camp (the venue) despite their reliably amazing line-ups, it's just grim in there.

Secret venue for me tonight is Proud2. Not looking forward to it.

i guess i can be relieved that i didn't get a ticket for low life, since i slept for about an hour on friday night and then was busy from 9am until midnight last night. I'D HAVE DIED.

i have friends visiting on the 5th, anything notable going on?

Lowlife was super fun, most fun I've had out dancing in a very very long time. I barely went into room two at all because everyone in the main room was absolutely killing it. Also watching a load of zombies and vampires dancing on the stage gave a nicely surreal touch.

Mulletover was dreadful, as predicted. I'm giving clubbing in London a miss for a bit after last night.

What's the deal with Theo and Plastic People. I am to understand he has some sort of quasi-residency there?

I went to Plastic People to see Theo Parrish when I had a couple of friends visiting - damn Theo is amazing, and damn that place is quiet + crowded.

will def try and make that ostgut night.

it's my birthday sunday and am meeting few berlin friends who are over for this with mano, on saturday. might go to electric minds tho i haven't been to a club for god knows how long, maybe 18 months.

i'm really distressed that i'm going to miss the terje/geist/etc night. (i am playing gamelan in york, so i'll at least be doing something fun, but still. ;_; )

in my almost six months here i've been pretty terrible with the dancing, not even been to fabric yet jeez. i'm planning on breaking that duck at the fwd>> + rinse thing in a couple of weeks, though. how does the £10 students before midnight thing work? is it possible to buy that kind of ticket, and if not is there the reasonable possibility that i'll turn up and it'll be sold out?

me & my crew are all gonna be at terje/geist

if i was going out dancing this weekend i might choose jenifa mayanja @ the question mark bar, but given the amount of work i have to do, i am not sure that will happen :(

actually, jellybean benitez and quentin harris on sat looks IMMENSE, harris is so much fun as a dj, but...fuck proud2. i mean the venue itself is fine but fuck the location why does it still exist :(

yeah i've wanted to see quentin harris for a long time. is proud2 what used to be called matter?

oh yeah i also went to paramount a few weeks ago (the bar/club at the top of centrepoint). the view is insane! magda was playing who was easily one of the worst djs i've ever seen. still there was a horde of minus fanboys holding up camera phones for the whole set. luckily mr c came on at about 5am and played an absolute stormer of a set while the sun rose over london out of the windows.

what's the nest like?

pretty small, average sound, expensive. still gutted that they got rid of barden's the venue for another trashy kingsland road club like that. what's with all the terje/geist fuss? it'll be expensive and rammed and blah blah! if you can't get in to terje/geist there's a beauty and the beat on the 28th, which will be a much better night :-p

s1ocki - if the weather is up for it, i'd recommend visiting some london parks, make sure you venture south of the river and then carry on to brighton cuz that's easy/fun.

ha i dunno, i've seen them both a few times and they've never really taken me anywhere, despite loving loads of stuff they've both put out

really excited about this 'the thing' party on friday, haven't been out dancing for a while! anyone else got their membership stone? gatto fritto + mystic rock. psychedelic party vibes.

maybe it's just the nights that i've been to but i've never had a problem with either the nest or corsica studios being too busy. kinda assumed the latter at least had a policy of not packing it to absolute capacity.

the sound in the nest doesn't really carry but i still rather liked it when i went last summer.

the terje/geist is at corsica which normally lets a sensible number of ppl in. would definitely go but i'm busy that night.

i went to see aeroplane at the nest once at it was awful. couldn't move your arms.

i went to corsica a month or so ago and the main dancefloor was mainly very unpleasant to "dance" in, i say dance, really it was shifting carefully in place, elbows tucked in, amazing sound though

corsica's been overfull the last couple of times i've been, kind of worried that it's a trend

the nest is better than bardens was. bardens soundsystem did my head in. as those interchangeable kingsland rd basements go, i think the nest is one of the better ones - i always feel relaxed in there. conversely how and why is the alibi still going, nothing about it is any good apart from, sadly, some of the people who choose to play there.

i can cosign the paramount views, gorgeous.

wish i could relocate corsica studios to somewhere slightly less hellish to get home from :(

The only time Corsica's felt really overfull to me was the Berghain/Panorama Bar night and that was sold out way way way in advance.

i just miss having a slighter bigger basement venue on kingsland road. people are putting stuff on at power lunches but that place doesn't make enough money to pay people from outside of london/uk. alibi seems to be the place to go if you aren't too fussed about what music is playing. corsica's doing an awesome job with bookings; the egyptian lover night the week before geist/terje, the kompakt night this friday. i really love corsica, but i've never had an amazing time dancing there, the vibe is sometimes a bit hostile and you're constantly having to let people past/through.

yeah, that, really.

basically i am just (predictably) trying to figure out if i should see optimo at dalston superstore a day before their lovebox gig, or the nest a month earlier

see optimo at every opportunity imo
