all that libertarian 'hey fuck children and paying taxes and anything else in this world but myself but i'm not selfish honest. also i do jokes about rape fist fucking a girl in their cunt but i don't find it funny'

Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Friday, 21 October 2011 12:54 (twelve years ago) link

Carrot Top's Yes Man pretty much ruined that interview.

President Keyes, Wednesday, 26 October 2011 00:32 (twelve years ago) link

agree that guy was horrible but it was prob not going anywhere interesting anyway

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 26 October 2011 00:44 (twelve years ago) link

Right? I didn't imagine it was going to be anything but superficial, but why the hell did his opener/friend have to defend his honor every five minutes like his mother?

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 26 October 2011 01:32 (twelve years ago) link

It was kinda hard to listen to, the level of awkwardness. Co-dependent relationship 101.

Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 01:33 (twelve years ago) link

The only thing I could think of to explain it is that Carrot Top has one hell of a temper. I mean, why else would this dude be smoothing shit over every 10 seconds. Reminded me of the way I was with my Mum when I was a kid.

Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 01:35 (twelve years ago) link

I can see that, but I never thought Marc was veering towards being a dick in the interview (except for when dude's prop jokes flatlined in the car on the way over). Carrot Top seemed perfectly at ease taking a few jabs and carrying on. Friend dude probably has some issues of his own.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 26 October 2011 01:43 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah that might be more of it. I agre, I didn't get a dickish vibe from Maron either. But there was an awful lot of scurrying going on. Fuckin weird is what that whole thing was.

Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 01:50 (twelve years ago) link

the norm interview was fucking great. maybe the funniest ep i've heard, but really penetrating too. loved when they tore into roasts.

The sham nation of Israel should be destroyed. (Princess TamTam), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 20:30 (twelve years ago) link

Carrot Top's pal interrupted too much. Couldn't take it.

polyphonic, Wednesday, 26 October 2011 20:31 (twelve years ago) link

Loved the Norm interview. Thought the spirituality discussion was fascinating...when Maron had been talking about Evangelicals earlier in the interview and Norm steered him off I was like, huh, I didn't know Norm was religious...so it was cool to hear him talk about that. Fucking great conversation between the two of them though. Found Norm very loveable.

Hannibal Burress interview was pretty cool too. He's such a happy, chill kinda dude.

I haven't heard this ep but saw Norm live over the summer and he slipped a lot of stuff in his act that made it clear that he's pretty religious, yeah.

Hung out with HB for a bit last year after a show. He got wasted and dished on 30 Rock cast. He was great and indeed very chill and happy.

Juggy Brottleteen (ENBB), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 21:51 (twelve years ago) link

Was irrationally hoping that Hannibal would mention that I booked him at a variety show I hosted back in 2004.

Maybe it's in the bonus material for premium subscribers :)

Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 23:59 (twelve years ago) link

That Steve Almond interview was okay, though he has mostly ILM-unfriendly opinions.

President Keyes, Thursday, 27 October 2011 19:25 (twelve years ago) link

Not even sure who that dude is, so I haven't gotten around to it yet.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 27 October 2011 19:31 (twelve years ago) link

He's a fiction writer, though he also has a book about rock music. And he doesn't like marketing.

President Keyes, Thursday, 27 October 2011 19:33 (twelve years ago) link

I still don't know who he is even after reading his Wikipedia page.

polyphonic, Thursday, 27 October 2011 19:33 (twelve years ago) link

And he sneered about Marc getting dragged to an Iron Maiden show.

President Keyes, Thursday, 27 October 2011 19:34 (twelve years ago) link

almond's a p big idiot, one of those writers who teaches at different writing conferences

puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Thursday, 27 October 2011 19:35 (twelve years ago) link

the one thing I read of his was about how great the foo fighters are in a southwest airlines magazine

puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Thursday, 27 October 2011 19:36 (twelve years ago) link

hah. his stuff against marketing just comes off as juvenile imo

johnny crunch, Thursday, 27 October 2011 19:54 (twelve years ago) link

Uh oh. Iron Maiden sneering? Maybe I'll wait til i'm calm & sleepy to listen.

Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 27 October 2011 19:54 (twelve years ago) link

x-post Yeah, I was thinking, "Are you 20 years old?"

President Keyes, Thursday, 27 October 2011 20:00 (twelve years ago) link

10 minutes in, and I already want to punch this asshole.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 27 October 2011 21:04 (twelve years ago) link

uh oh

Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 27 October 2011 21:38 (twelve years ago) link

this is unusual for batman. (Jordan), Thursday, 27 October 2011 21:41 (twelve years ago) link

I'll try it tomorrow but it sounds iffy

Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 27 October 2011 22:16 (twelve years ago) link

Almond is lame, too much on a poor man's David Foster Wallace thing, but Maron is at least engaged in this one 9as opposed to the Carrot Top fiasco), and he has to try to defend his love for the fucking Keith Richards autobio (even though I hate Almond's take on the Stones.)

President Keyes, Thursday, 27 October 2011 22:35 (twelve years ago) link

haha, when maron is riding to carrot top's house and the dude is describing all these racist prop comedy bits, the flipdown "black guy" mask, the angry birds border jumper sombrero.... it's breathtaking.

dylannn, Friday, 28 October 2011 04:34 (twelve years ago) link

wow norm macdonald episode was like almost my ideal wtf episode. so good.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 3 November 2011 14:53 (twelve years ago) link

Eeee! I can't wait. Hope it's good.

Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 3 November 2011 15:39 (twelve years ago) link

maron was being a real dick to scott adsit

mizzell, Thursday, 3 November 2011 16:23 (twelve years ago) link

I haven't finished Monday's live ep, so I need to go back and hear that and try to figure out why.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 3 November 2011 16:31 (twelve years ago) link

jeez, comics are thriving with material on pushing 50 and getting fat? Time for me to hit the comeback trail.

Dr Morbois de Bologne (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 3 November 2011 16:32 (twelve years ago) link

wow norm macdonald episode was like almost my ideal wtf episode. so good.

This.

DSMOS has arrived (kenan), Thursday, 3 November 2011 17:29 (twelve years ago) link

Finding Maron really funny on the live show from this week ... guess that's a strange observation about a comedian but it's not what I usually get out of his program. Liking it.

Norm episode was excellent.

boxall, Friday, 4 November 2011 02:17 (twelve years ago) link

i kind of think it's a shame that so many people know him solely as an interviewer, he actually is a pretty funny comic!

prettyliketynandelong (some dude), Friday, 4 November 2011 02:54 (twelve years ago) link

idk i listened to the norm one and the intro (just him) was annoying. also his digression into self-aggrandizing political rants during the interview. it was still great tho, overall.

zvookster, Friday, 4 November 2011 02:57 (twelve years ago) link

His stand-up is great, but I don't like his pre-interview bits.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Friday, 4 November 2011 04:40 (twelve years ago) link

his digression into self-aggrandizing political rants during the interview

tbf, that's the first time he's done that in eons.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 4 November 2011 04:58 (twelve years ago) link

I dug the Chris Rock interview. Not really anything necessarily new...I just liked hearing him talk at length, I guess.

Really want to watch footage of his dinner with Woody Allen though....

Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 4 November 2011 05:16 (twelve years ago) link

I really dug the Rock and Hamm interviews I listened to last night, need to catch up with like the past 10 though.

One thing I'd like to say- I don't give a shit about American stand up, bar a few guys, I just don't find it funny. I mostly just listen because I like the stories and whatever. Anyone else feel that?

a hoy hoy, Friday, 4 November 2011 08:30 (twelve years ago) link

yeah, pretty much

Michael B Higgins (Michael B), Friday, 4 November 2011 10:16 (twelve years ago) link

I don't give a shit about American stand up, bar a few guys, I just don't find it funny

so you're into...british standup? canadian?

loved the chris rock one btw.

this is unusual for batman. (Jordan), Friday, 4 November 2011 14:44 (twelve years ago) link

Norwegian stand-up is where its at.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Friday, 4 November 2011 14:44 (twelve years ago) link

well for me i like oswalt and louis CK but im not hugely into stand up or anything. a lot of the names he mentions dont register with me at all. ive never heard dave atell's stand up or jim norton for instance.

Michael B Higgins (Michael B), Friday, 4 November 2011 14:49 (twelve years ago) link

Atell is funny, but in a "omg I can't believe I'm laughing at this awful shit" funny. Jim Norton is just an asshole.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 4 November 2011 14:54 (twelve years ago) link
