You didn't think her pizzas with cream cheese and ketchup sounded bad? Abed wasn't very supportive of her baking at the beginning.

That was perfection, probably in my top 5 episodes ever. The penultimate scene with Jeff's arm was amazing.

OTM.

This makes me sad however:

Pretty much think that Alison Brie's acting/comedic timing is the worst part of the show, I'm really surprised that anyone rates her. She's just so awkward and always "on" in the worst way.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Thursday, 20 October 2011 03:33 (twelve years ago) link

Everytime I watch this episode I repeatedly rewind to see the two seconds of "flames in the troll's eyes/Roxanne on the soundtrack". A gif of that would be nice, but it wouldn't be the same without the song.

imo 'on' is the character, what she does totally fits in the tone and sensibility of the show (xpost)

more than just the jeff negativity i feel like this episode made explicit the 'troy is secretly the hero/protagonist' thing they've been pushing at for a while

i don't get this at all. allison brie is gorgeous. the only reason i ever even remember the age discrepancy between jeff + annie is bc the show itself keeps reminding me of it. if it didn't i'd probably forget that these two attractive actors weren't close enough in age to be in a relationship. so to call it 'too gross' bc of the very context the show maintains seems a little selective and strange.

― Mordy, Wednesday, 19 October 2011 15:03 (Yesterday) Bookmark

oh i don't find it gross because of their age difference or for a lack of good looks on either side. the way that they awkwardly invoke the age diff/annie's maturity & jeff's greasy lines and too-serious cheek stroking--it's like squirming bordering on setting off my gag reflex

flopson, Thursday, 20 October 2011 04:15 (twelve years ago) link

I'll admit that it worked a little better in season 1.

i was feeling bad about being neg about the new season on this thread & wanted to apologize for maybe sowing the seed of doubt and ruining any of your thursday nights and then, unable to post, was racked with guilt during downtime meltdown, but now the op

I totally love all four episodes of ssn 3. fuck the haters.

My dream for the next 4ish years of this show is that it is retired after exactly 6 seasons and a movie, and the move will be called College Cut-ups 2: Party Raid Academy

Fellini.Kuti, Thursday, 20 October 2011 05:24 (twelve years ago) link

I actually think that Ken Jeong, Danny Pudi and Donald Glover are as good if not better when it comes to physical comedy, but they're mostly all good at it, maybe only Chevy Chase lets the side down.

Matt DC, Thursday, 20 October 2011 09:01 (twelve years ago) link

Shirley's transition from 'hopeful bustling walk' to 'furious bustling walk' cracks me up every time.

Matt DC, Thursday, 20 October 2011 09:02 (twelve years ago) link

seeing some snippets of Chase going from casual Chevy to awkward or bumbling Pierce on the S1 DVD extras made me hugely appreciate what a beast he is at physical comedy

I despise everything Chase has ever done (except for Community, to my own surprise), and even I'd agree with that statement.

She's just never met a joke she couldn't strangle to death with OTT overacting. I think the show immediately gets less funny whenever it's focusing on her. I think Joel McHale's comic timing is really labored on the show too, fwiw.

and i liked seeing the 'what ifs' idk jeff making all these ppl worse was kindof a brilliant way to end this episode??
I liked how removing Jeff from the group = everyone ends up happy.
I loved this too

one of the best episodes imo - it touched my nostalgia for repeated POV movies like Clue and Mystery Train

I was going to try ranking the stories but they were all hilarious. Shirley is super underappreciated, I think.

he carried yellow flowers (DJP), Friday, 28 October 2011 15:14 (twelve years ago) link

Shirley's story was the fucking best, mostly because of the Dean. Dude is on fire this season.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Friday, 28 October 2011 15:18 (twelve years ago) link

Lags in comparison to the last ep - you can see why that was intended as the third in order - but plenty fun. Still I was cracking up all throughout - Britta covered in blood, Abed's ruthless logic, etc.

"The dean's bringing free meat from the army surplus!"

Abed's line about not happening to turn on the radio right as the news report came on was A+++, as was Troy's hand motions and lip-synching.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Friday, 28 October 2011 15:36 (twelve years ago) link

I only picked up on the fact that Abed and Troy were dressed up as Inspector Spacetime and the Constable after the fact.

Tarfumes The Escape Goat, Friday, 28 October 2011 16:16 (twelve years ago) link

I just found out about Drunken Histories like yesterday, and the first Britta story was weirdly like that, or whatever.

kinder, Friday, 28 October 2011 17:49 (twelve years ago) link

I really want to go back to season 1 and see if Britta was this hopeless even then; I remember her being opinionated but not completely hopeless early in the show (which, sadly, made her less interesting).

he carried yellow flowers (DJP), Friday, 28 October 2011 17:51 (twelve years ago) link

no she definitely got more hapless and sympathetic, at the beginning she was kind of sarcastic and obnoxious like a lady jeff

On the season 1 DVD commentaries, Dan Harmon talks about how worried they were about how underdeveloped Britta was at the beginning.
