I'm really surprised how good each track segues into another; none of you heard each others when making it right?

As far as I know, no -- they all just arrived as they did. Gotta say that ILX comps are pretty stellar for always having some actual variety to them.

snoball's "Frustration" is another favorite; his "Get On Your Boots" for the U2 one is an all time classic and this is not far off.

do you guys think this will be how the irl lou reed and metallica react to their lulu

Charlie H or Scottie W?

good luck in your pyramid (Neil S), Wednesday, 12 October 2011 19:54 (twelve years ago) link

haha, my agenda was just to croon through that song in a voice that wasn't my natural one. only afterwards did i make the SW connection.

charlie h, Wednesday, 12 October 2011 19:57 (twelve years ago) link

Was definitely hearing that, like something from "Tilt" maybe...

good luck in your pyramid (Neil S), Wednesday, 12 October 2011 19:58 (twelve years ago) link

probably subliminal. i do love me some scott.

charlie h, Wednesday, 12 October 2011 20:01 (twelve years ago) link

And did you say you did that with improvised lyrics, Charlie? That's kinda amazing!

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 12 October 2011 20:02 (twelve years ago) link

yeah, improvised lyrics in one take. initially i intended it as a practice run, but it ended up summing up what i set out to do.

It is incredibly hard to improvise for 11 minutes, because halfway through you realize that you're only halfway through.

damn "frustration" is a great Neu! song!

Jack Battery-Pack

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 12 October 2011 20:15 (twelve years ago) link

It is incredibly hard to improvise for 11 minutes, because halfway through you realize that you're only halfway through.

I was going to do add in more vocals on my song but realized very quickly that I wasn't really going to put together 11 minutes of coherent singing on the fly, so I just sang an ooh and a catch phrase, pitch-shifted them for the second half and called it a day.

The second phrase was me going "oh shit, half of this is in D-minor and half is in C-minor, how am I getting from one to the other...? INTERLUDE"

emil.y, Wednesday, 12 October 2011 20:37 (twelve years ago) link

I have to say, I think that ILM really upped their game from the U2 collection for this one.

Actually it's violin if you mean the solo, kind of a VU / Cale nod plus I needed to fill out the time quite frankly.
Will listen to all these over the weekend when I'm at work and near the computer with proper speakers, can't wait!

Sunny and Beeps were out of town last week, and the boy came wandering in while I was doing the vocals. He and Lou got along, but Jamez kinda scared him.

You can also hear him setting off the cordless phone's intercom pager in the other room during the verses.

LITTLE DOG!

Having our "Little Dog" taken down from Youtube due to a copyright infringement is the highlight of my musical career

chr1sb3singer, Friday, 29 October 2021 13:40 (two years ago) link

I might give this project an anniversary spin then !

AlXTC from Paris, Friday, 29 October 2021 13:54 (two years ago) link

It was still such a treat to put this all together and just thinking about how well it would land while everyone was going crazy waiting for the final tracks to arrive.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 29 October 2021 14:45 (two years ago) link

So is there any chance of putting this up on the ILX bandcamp page?

IIRC part of the reason why we didn't go that route was because not every track arrived in AIFF/WAV format.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 29 October 2021 14:46 (two years ago) link

I am so proud to have been part of this project
