how was he a shiny product? like, his career or his personal life or his ability to make good stuff at the end of his life?

he stood for something very attractive. that's all i'm getting at.

That is actually a tiny bit poignant, a gin or two in.

Must not buy mac plus on the ebay

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Monday, 10 October 2011 22:08 (twelve years ago) link

right, but you can't tell me the guy didn't have the aura of apple design about him and that it wasn't part of his appeal imo--especially as the guy who had a second coming that revolutionized the company and brought about the products that design people jizz over.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Monday, 10 October 2011 22:45 (twelve years ago) link

Hey have you guys heard that one of the side effects of cancer treatment is hair loss? I know, right?

xp that other dude is not balding, he has a shaved head and a widows peak.

Hey have you guys heard that one of the side effects of cancer treatment is hair loss? I know, right?

wtf is this? My point was that ~imo~ his haircut does not fit with the Apple design aura

Autumn Almanac (Schlafsack), Monday, 10 October 2011 22:51 (twelve years ago) link

The point is it may be less "haircut" than "making the best of a bad situation for someone who does not want his head shaved."

Ubeki-beki-beki-beki-stan-stan M. (Phil D.), Monday, 10 October 2011 22:52 (twelve years ago) link

maybe haircut is physical representation of ipod's halo effect on mac sales?

Philip Nunez, Monday, 10 October 2011 22:54 (twelve years ago) link

h8 steve jobs for that haircut. what a dork.

One of Steve's less-discussed legacies is how he, more than any other single person, made it acceptable to wear casual clothes at work. Before Apple, *nobody* who was the CEO of a huge company would give a keynote address wearing jeans and sneakers. The hair was part of the same aesthetic - just as he didn't want (for himself or his employees) to be constrained by uncomfortable suits, neckties, and leather shoes, he didn't feel like futzing with his hair for an hour before the big speech.

more than any other single person

idk, i have been looking pretty casual at work for a long time. i have really lowered that tone.

my friend told me a story about this. some guy that works w/ him was telling this story that he was like paying for live sex cams and that he was idk directing the girl on the screen and then at some point she looks at her laptop and says " oh it says here that steve jobs died"

and RIP i guess

plax (ico), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 00:08 (twelve years ago) link

xp Yeah, the scope of people feeling this loss seems without any of the usual barriers - I mean even ESPN was talking about Steve Jobs instead of football. Several of the signs with rearrangable letters that you see in front of stores, hotels, shopping malls around here have goodbye messages for Steve on them.

one thing this thread has made me think of is peoples tendency to want to define someone by the worst thing theyve done and whether thats legit or not - and then theres the tendency to want to make the worst thing the persons done seem worse than it is

ice cr?m, Tuesday, 11 October 2011 02:18 (twelve years ago) link

Or the things they didn't do, that people perceive they should have.

Okay, so there is this Japanese restaurant that I used to frequent often in the late 00s and Jobs would often be there (but not Woz lol).

Rumor had it he was quite tight with the owners, possibly helping bankroll the place when it opened.

They announced they were closing about 2 weeks ago.

Follow-up, the head chef has been hired by Apple and will be working at the Cupertino HQ. Crazy, as this place was pretty high-end, a incredibly different universe from the corporate lunch scene.

you made it sound like a ~scene~!

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Wednesday, 12 October 2011 03:40 (twelve years ago) link

the only Steve Jobs food story i ever heard was from a guy i knew in college, who is now a key guy at Apple

he told me that he once watched Steve Jobs threw a hissy fit at the Apple cafeteria because he wanted pasta, but the cafeteria was serving something else that day. so Steve Jobs basically tortured the lunch ladies until they finally made what he wanted.

Got to use the phrase "corporate lunch scene" today when asked for a restaurant suggestion for a business lunch. A+ would use again.
