The best Temple of the Dog song is probably "All Night Thing" or "Say Hello To Heaven", fwiw.

As a 17 year old freshman in college in 1990, I had a millionth-generation warbly-audio demo cassette of Chris Cornell's bedroom recordings including a really, really amazing version of this song. What year did TotD come out 1991 or 1992?

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 8 July 2005 16:05 (eighteen years ago) link

spring 1991

i think we just singlehandedly started the grunge comeback in this thread.

I WAS THERE

I hate grunge unless we're talkin' Olivelawn and the DWARVES.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Friday, 8 July 2005 17:04 (eighteen years ago) link

What is your favorite Dwarves song? Mine is "Lesbian Nun".

At a wedding a couple years ago my date and I were sat at a table sandwiched between Blag Dahlia and his date and Frank Kozik and his.

I'M GONNA BREAK MY RUSTY CAAAAAAGE

cutty (mcutt), Friday, 8 July 2005 17:07 (eighteen years ago) link

I'm very partial to "Gash Wagon." Hard to compare some of the earlier stuff to the more epic later stuff, though. Every song on the 2nd Sub Pop album is fairly great.

Have you ever heard "Saturday Night" and "Wish That I Was Dead" from Sugarfix?

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Friday, 8 July 2005 17:09 (eighteen years ago) link

No, I never heard that one! Their singles go for $$$$$ up here FYI.

i had a dream a week ago where i was sitting at a table eating a meal with some friends. chris cornell and another soundgarden member (matt cameron, most likely) show up and suddenly the entire place goes quiet because everyone knows of my severe disdain for soundgarden. a tense meal followed.
what a shitty (more grunge than noise) dream.

Those songs are amazing. The insert that came with the album says "Wish That I Was Dead" is "for Del Shannon." That was the 3rd Sub Pop album. It's quite good on the whole. I didn't like the one after that as much.

I still want to hear Blag's bluegrass album.

I've got an idea of something we can do with a gun.

one time at a party i said something about how some grunge songs are fun to sing along to when you hear them on the radio, and jor-el said, pointedly, "no they're not."

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 02:28 (eighteen years ago) link

although i'm usually leading the embarrassing nostalgia brigade, i cannot bring myself to feel anything but horror at the idea of a grunge revival.
