This is one of the best puzzle games I've played in a while. The best part is the tilting portion; SO FUCKING COOL.

They're adding all of these RPGish elements later on involving equipable power-ups that can be levelled as you play the game. so so so great

Can't believe this thing is still free!

HI DERE, Friday, 18 July 2008 16:44 (fifteen years ago) link

But where's it leading to Dan? I'm playing it a lot too, but I don't really know why. I've maxed out a few of the skills or whatever, but they don't seem to make much difference to anything. I've tried adding friends, but it can't find any for me. And the game itself is cute, but not really challenging enough to hold my interest in itself. I think it's really just their promise that it's the first part of what will everntually be some big fancy MMO which is keeping me playing it.

Anyway. Monkey Ball is pretty ace, although the tilt thing is a bit touchy, sometimes it feels hypersensitive but others it needs to be tilted so far that I can't even see the screen. Liking it a lot despite that though.

Tap Tap Revenge is a nice little DDR clone, enjoy it when I'm playing it but definitely don't feel compelled to go back to it that often.

Just tried the Crash Bandicoot kart game on someone else's phone, framerate is shocking but the control feels nice enough to make up for that. Doubt I'll fork out for it though.

The freebie 3d mahjong is crud. As is the tiltable maze game.

JimD, Friday, 18 July 2008 16:47 (fifteen years ago) link

Also, if you've ever played any Puzzle Quest, Aurora Feint starts to feel like a HUGE ripoff.

JimD, Friday, 18 July 2008 16:49 (fifteen years ago) link

Never played Puzzle Quest.

I think the fact that you're still playing it even though you're kind of fed up with it says a lot for how well they've implemented the gameplay for this thing.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who hates that mah jongg game!

HI DERE, Friday, 18 July 2008 16:57 (fifteen years ago) link

the fact that you're still playing it even though you're kind of fed up with it says a lot for how well they've implemented the gameplay

Yeah, definitely. It just feels right.

It could do with a bugfix too though. Some bits of text seem to hang off the side of my screen in some of the submenus, and given that those bits of text explain what the level ups actually do, I suspect they're probably pretty important.

Hey Aurora Feint, you know that other game you shamelessly plagiarised? Well, it's coming.

Anyone played anything else decent of late? I like Imangi a lot, Ashpalt 4 is suprisingly diverting, (although frame rate issues kill it really), Spore Origins was pretty disappointing. And oh, I tried Billy Frontier. Utter shite.

Soda Dungeon update!

OK so the only two bosses with a twist are the ones I already "complained" about up above - with sufficient buffs your party will walk through the entire rest of the game, including the "final" boss, on autoplay. Autoplay mode does not stop for dialogue boxes, it does not stop for treasure selection screens, it does not stop to make you choose between divergent paths, it'll just wait a little bit and then keep going. I have no idea what it's like to fight the 9th dungeon boss, or the giant extra-dimensional alien at the "end," other than a deep and abiding hunch that they are 1) the dumbest 2) easily crushed by the repeated application of the technique known as "tapping"

Now I'm in the WARRIOR DIMENSION and apparently there is some other stuff you can do, like collect bottle caps and shit? At this point though my relic buffs are so intense that five junkies in their underwear with a single stool and broken bottle among them can get all the way to level 240-something in the Lair of Despair before something finally wipes them out.

El Tomboto, Saturday, 28 January 2017 15:23 (seven years ago) link

I really wish they would add more levels to Mario Run. It's a fun game but there are hardly any levels, and it gets pretty dull pretty fast. How expensive could it really be for Nintendo just to release a few more levels? I feel they they really weren't listening to people here

Evan R, Tuesday, 31 January 2017 00:08 (seven years ago) link

And now Nintento has updated the game, changing around a bunch of stuff and adding some things. But still no new levels.

Evan R, Thursday, 2 February 2017 16:16 (seven years ago) link

i really hate them for the fact that you need to be connected to play this game. i hadn't realised that when buying it before going on a long plane ride, imagine my disappointment on board.

Jibe, Thursday, 2 February 2017 16:36 (seven years ago) link

yeah. designed to cut down on piracy, I'm sure, but it doesn't work well. It sometimes glitches after I finish a level and won't save my progress. Also how hard is it to offer an online mode?

Evan R, Thursday, 2 February 2017 16:41 (seven years ago) link

Yeah, I finally finished everything, I have 9999 toads, and I'd love some new levels. I'd even pay another $5 or something.

DJI, Thursday, 2 February 2017 18:46 (seven years ago) link

Soda Dungeon has at least 4,697 levels! No online mode for some reason

Lol I have knocked out about 150 easy puzzles. I still don’t quite get the hard ones

When Young Sheldon began to rap (forksclovetofu), Friday, 22 October 2021 01:28 (two years ago) link

I’m on expert! Medium wasn’t too bad, you just have to be fastidious/obsessive and taking a break helps if you’re stuck. The Experts are similar to Medium but at some point you have to dive in and start guessing several moves ahead… fortunately the undo button makes this (slightly) less existentially terrifying. Medium is probably a bit more fun - I feel more rewarded by slow deduction work than “planning out a quadrillion moves ahead” work

Chuck_Tatum, Friday, 22 October 2021 09:45 (two years ago) link

Wow have I ever become addicted to this. I don’t have a “medium” though (unless I missed an IAP) - just easy and hard.

Nhex, Friday, 4 November 2022 14:37 (one year ago) link

I like Marvel Snap but it doesn't grab me like Marvel Puzzle Quest did. I like the idea that you can only buy cosmetic improvements to your cards in theory, but I'm not super motivated to make my cards shinier. I like the announcement of the upgrade of a card (THREE DEEEEE) more than the upgrade itself.

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Saturday, 5 November 2022 16:47 (one year ago) link

the fancier/more expensive they get, the more bauble-y

the upgrades are really just to make the feedback loop going, where you get more cards. but at the certain point (probably around lvl 250?) you start being resource-constrained. thankfully the game is still very playable by that point, you should have a ton of cards and possible decks
