I think it should be retracted. If people are interested in one being manufactured and sold anyway, then a poll should be made of what threads to include and anyone involved should be contacted and asked for permission.

wow

A clearer understanding of the copyright portion of the FAQ and how that relates to thread and post deletion, esp. regarding requests by posters. Obviously I am biased because I have seen multiple requests for thread and post deletion by someone very close to be go completely ignored. Outside of that, I'm with J0hn and will return to lurkerdom until I can finally wean myself away forever.

CafePress is generally quick to respond to "the owner of that store does not possess that copyright," for what it's worth.

I will make any email correspondences I have with CafePress regarding this issue public if requested.

Unfortunately, but the damage has already been done.

I think it should be retracted. If people are interested in one being manufactured and sold anyway, then a poll should be made of what threads to include and anyone involved should be contacted and asked for permission.

Additionally, if this scheme was to continue I would like the ability to be able to delete/edit/redact my own posts.

Since Momus has just dubbed himself Spielberg on the thread, I guess that makes you George Lucas.

Don't insult the man, Sean!

In the interests of fostering amity before the upcoming ILX peace summit, I would like to retract my previous comment.

It can be read in our FAQ (/ILX/ThreadSelectedControllerServlet?faq.php) that each poster on our discussion forum retains Copyright over their own posts. Haha I already sent them a similar message (only without the "I WILL SUE YOU WITH GUNS" part).

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 23:31 (nineteen years ago) link

Why do any of you honestly think someone would have bought the stupid book anyway?

And i think a more prudent point is stinking this whole thing up - Mark G has effectively come in, done a shit and left again, and everyone else is left dealing with the smell.

Did it occur to anyone else he might just have dropped this stinkbomb on purpose?

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 24 June 2004 00:58 (nineteen years ago) link

(to whit: is anyone going to give him a metaphorical slaparound for this? Cos the reactions he's caused is far worse than any silly little chapbook ever would be)

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 24 June 2004 00:59 (nineteen years ago) link

At least Andrew got his $2000 out of it.

TOMBOT, Thursday, 24 June 2004 02:21 (nineteen years ago) link

Tom, do you remember when that guy used to post about how terrible we were and he was glad he wasn't posting anymore? And everyone made fun of him for it?

Tep (ktepi), Thursday, 24 June 2004 02:27 (nineteen years ago) link

Am I still posting?

The *overreaction* to Mark's thread has actually made me want to leave ILX more than anything posted by Calum or JW ever. But, unlike Calum and JW, I know that Mark is ultimately a decent person who will actually *STOP* doing something which is upsetting people, if you merely ask him. Which neither Calum or JW have ever done.

People love Gravity and Evolution! (kate), Thursday, 24 June 2004 07:55 (nineteen years ago) link

Yes, Mark has apologised and retracted the book, and I in turn have apologised for my troll suggestion, which was spurious at best, I feel stupid for having said as much.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 24 June 2004 09:56 (nineteen years ago) link

I can't believe J0hn left over something so silly. I'm sorry, but it was obviously not a malicious act, and as such, asking politely for the book to be removed would have sufficed. I can't believe so many ILXer are such babies about this kind of shit.

Think Rationally (King Kobra), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 22:17 (nineteen years ago) link

isn't this language revealing?
