Horses 8, Radio Ethiopia 10 (it's one of my favourite albums ever) Easter 8, Wave 7, People is the Power 12" 6 (it's all I've got of her later stuff, I don't really like the title song but I like the other two). Best songs - 'Break It Up' then 'Distant Fingers'.

I had a big argument with my family about whether Patti Smith was attractive. I said yes, they all said no. If I ever see Radio Ethiopia I'll get it for you Di.

Easter has "Rock N Roll Nigger" and damn do I love that song. I think that's what got me into Smith...
I have Horses and Peace and Noise, which are both good. I would have to recommend Horses as a must have for anyone into Patti Smith, but I haven't heard everything she's put out. Horses/Land of a Thousand Dances has to be my favorite song on the Horses album. There's something very primal about her lyrical approach that grabs my attention.

Wow Adrian, how perceptive of you for finally catching on that I'm racist. I guess that would explain why one of my best friends in the world is Vietnamese, how I lived with two black friends of mine for quite a while, and why one of my ex-girlfriend's is from Santiago, Chile. Do me a favor and keep on hating whitey. Oh, and btw

ROCK 'N ROLL NIGGER

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Saturday, 2 August 2003 01:42 (twenty years ago) link

Btw I can't think of anything I'd give a 10 to.

Now because of this, I am definetly going to start polluting your threads you assholes..................................................

Btw I can't think of anything I'd give a 10 to.

I can think of lots, I'm so easy w/ my rating system. Although, actually, if 10 means a perfect record (which it SHOULD) I guess I can't really think of anything either. I'm glad I didn't take maths with stats.

Livvie (Livvie), Saturday, 2 August 2003 04:12 (twenty years ago) link

Lenny Bruce? Good call.

"Now, why have I done this? Is this only for shock-value? Well, if all the niggers started calling each other 'nigger,' not only among themselves, which they do anyway, but among the ofays. If President Kennedy got on television and said: 'I'm considering appointing two or three of the top niggers in the country into my cabinet' - if it was nothing but nigger, nigger, nigger - in six months 'nigger' wouldn't mean any more than 'goodnight,' 'God bless you,' or "I promise to tell the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth so help me God - when that beautiful day comes, you'll never see another nigger kid come home from school crying because some ofay motherfucker called him a nigger." - Lenny Bruce

Marilyn Manson covered "Rock N Roll Nigger" on his dead to the world tour and cities started threatening to ban him for singing the song. So what did he do? He got a friend of his who was black to sing it with him at shows. Does that make the black man who sang the song racist too Adrian? Or are you just running out of excuses to bitch and sound ignorant? Silly boy...

PATTI SMITH RULES!!! I wish i could have seen her at the CBGB with Television or the Talking Heads. Damn me for being born two decades too late....

The Man they call Dan (The Man they call Dan), Saturday, 2 August 2003 04:37 (twenty years ago) link

jonathan gittins (nevermind^), Monday, 4 August 2003 10:36 (twenty years ago) link

nineteen years pass...

I've been playing Dream of Life this week. The late '80s keyboard sheen and echo-lade drums suit the material. "The Jackson Song," "People Have the Power," and "Up There Down There" are the keepers.t
