own it already Alex. I found this tidbit of info to be rather interesting.

Did an extensive websearch for this song about 5 yrs ago, without even knowing the name. Finally found like a huge .wav file of it hosted on someone's web page. And then of course I put on a wig and tucked me bits and pieces between my legs and videoed myself dancing in the mirror.

Wow! Nice find, Chris (I love trivia like this!)

yay yay yay ! my £1.99 mint copy of the married to the mob soundtrack is one of this last year's fave purchases (best version of new order's b.l.t., chris isaak's only good song 'suspicion of love' etc.) that boy demme knew his tunes.

such a shame about his brother.

I downloaded the Goodbye Horses remix EP from iTunes and it's great! My favorite is the one with the choral synth pads.

Wikipedia mocks me though by telling me there's a version that's over 6 minutes long. Where to find?

what can folks tell me about Voodooist Corporation, who also had a track on one of those Demme soundtrack albums?

henry s, Monday, 20 July 2009 01:25 (fourteen years ago) link

Stuart from Ike Yard/Dominatrix Sleeps Tonight had a project called the Voodooists.

I can't stop listening to this song. Just picked up the extended version on this extended versions bootleg series. I am happy about not paying $400.

She's alive, but no longer making music and only surfaced long enough to have a conversation with the author of the above fb post. Stereogum repackaged the story, but she expects to write a more elaborate article soon.

i just read this elsewhere!
am glad she is still around <3

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 12 August 2018 03:00 (five years ago) link

tbh though i super-love Silence of The Lambs, I do get bummed out that culturally the song is sort of a punchline or joke to certain circles of dumb ppl

it’s such a beautiful song, it haunts me in a good way

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 12 August 2018 03:06 (five years ago) link

I've never encountered that reaction to it. Everyone I've ever heard speak about it does so with the utmost reverence.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 12 August 2018 03:10 (five years ago) link

lucky you then

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 12 August 2018 03:21 (five years ago) link

i am very privileged that i get to play this song to tens of thousands of people a year; i have never, ever noticed anyone respond to it without the utmost reverence.

v. happy to hear she is still alive!!

A moderately epic troll that when there was finally an official reissue on a 12" it was a shorter edit of the 7" version and not the sought after extended version. And as if to add insult to injury, a no doubt yawnsome remix ;-)

Absolute Unit Delta Plus (Noel Emits), Monday, 13 August 2018 13:36 (five years ago) link

I'm guessing it was a question of getting the rights and/or the original tapes but still wound people up.

Absolute Unit Delta Plus (Noel Emits), Monday, 13 August 2018 13:37 (five years ago) link

wait I thought the song playing while buffalo bill danced was a colin newman song?

akm, Monday, 13 August 2018 21:35 (five years ago) link

it"s Goodbye Horses during that scene but Alone and The Fall's Hip Priest are played earlier in the scene.

fwiw, I don't feel like Buffalo Bill doing a mangina dance to Goodbye Horses is a cultural joke. The scene is amazing and made more deep and strange that it's played out to that song.

Britain's Sexiest Cow (jed_), Monday, 13 August 2018 21:44 (five years ago) link

If you wanted to do a mangina dance to Goodbye Horses (as a friend of mine and stirmonster's has) then go for it! It's not a song that requires absolute reverence, imo.

From another obit, some welcome if still sad news:

At the time of her death, Diane was finishing work on a feature documentary about her life and music with filmmaker and friend, Eva Aridjis. The film will be released in 2023, along with an album of songs spanning her entire musical career.

Goodbye Horses is from at least 1988 because it was on the Married to the Mob soundtrack (Demme was definitely in her corner early).
