But I would have rather pitted the Atlanta Rhythm Section against Ozark Mountain Daredevils and the Climax Blues Band against the Little River Band. Those would be tough.

I just listened to I Love You by Climax Blues Band for the first time after hearing the chorus for years in K-Tel soft rock compilations, etc. I just automatically dismissed it as a piece of kitschy 70s yacht-rock cheese.
But no. It is a fucking brilliant song.

the early CBB albums rule so hard and are nothing like what they would become. which is kinda the standard progression when talking about brit blues rock bands. though many of them got more interesting when they lost their purity streaks a la Chicken Shack and Groundhogs, CBB, in my opinion, were better earlier. Plays On is great, but A Lot Of Bottle is seriously one of my fave rock records of the 70's.
so dope:

it's like a 3 dollar record in a used record store too. might even find it in a dollar bin.

now, did they ever make an album as great as Imagination Lady by Chicken Shack or Saturday Morning Pictures by Stray? no, they didn't. but they were a seriously groovy band from 1969 to 1972.
the later albums and singles are fun though. "Couldn't Get It Right" will always be 70's gold. i like any song that reminds me of 10cc and Squeeze simultaneously.

came across "Couldn't Get It Right" thanks to a shared spotify playlist from my brother (who had discovered it from his Discover list). And it is indeed '70s gold.

ARS loses big-time points for the horrid "I'm Not Gonna Let It Bother Me Tonight,"
this is no joke
what a buzzkill of a track 2!
