Favorite Long Songs ?

In general? Doesn't the full version of "I Feel Love" break that barrier? Both sides of the Ash Ra Tempel debut album, Can's "Halleluwah," "Soon" by MBV just pips it I think, most everything on the Cure's _Disintegration_ or so it seems, "Three Days" by Jane's Addiction (or "Summertime Rolls" if that gets that far as well), "Haunted While the Minutes Drag" by Love and Rockets, "Energy Flash" should be that long if it isn't already, "Moon Revolutions" by the Young Gods, "Plainsong" by Seefeel, "The Blue Room" by the Orb, etc. I could go on.

Anyway "The Blue Room" in its 39 min 58 sec version. Can's "Yoo Doo Right". The Chemical Brothers' "The Private Psychedelic Reel". Sonic Youth's "Trilogy". Bridget St John's "Ask Me No Questions". Grace Jones - any of her full-length single mixes really. Laurie Anderson's "O Superman". The 9-minute version of Jamie Principle's "Baby Wants To Ride". Almost any Porter Ricks 12". "Autobahn"!! "Europe Endless"!! Kraftwerk have loads of really good ones. Neu's "Hallogallo".

I'm into repetition more than development in a long song, if it's worth repeating. A best less-than-a-minute songs thread would be fun.

and aren't the songs on the first ubu single 3o seconds over tokyo and heart of darkness? i don't think heart of darkness is 7 minutes. tokyo *might* be.

I agree with "Halleluwah" by Can, and I would add the first track on 94 Diskont by Oval (I can't remember the name right now)--but is that really a "song?" It sounds so damn pretentious to call it a "piece," though. "Marquee Moon" is definitely worthy of inclusion. How about "Good Morning, Captain" off Slint's Spiderland? There are many, many more, but it's late and I'm sleepy.

Err, I don't know, if I LIKE a song I never notice it's long. I never notice how godawful long Won't Get Fooled Again is. Most dance/techno songs seem to be quite long, but they never seem long. I'd have to actually look up the length of a song to be sure it's long enough, because I don't remember. I think All I Want Is You by U2 is like 7 minutes long, and that's pretty good.

And yes, G'n'R make unreasonably long songs. The problem is, most of them suck ;)

I would have also said "Endless, Nameless" by Nirvana, too, but that's just under seven minutes.
