sherburne wrote a glowing review in The Wire...

i dig it. the erykah badu/trip-hop thing takes away from it abit, but that weird sorta-Shakespearen recitation in the disc's middle works. the sudden echoing wormholes that open up are deep indeed.

its starts off ok. if a little aphex derivative. - its like a complete ripp off that track. with the Cunningham limo video and the black chicks?

that trip hop track is out of place here.

It's a good album - he has tried quite a lot different from on the Musik Krause 12"s that he released before the album came out - its quite brave in the way that he hasnn't turned out the click/micro-haus album that many people expected of him.

yes, it's very addictive. i think the "aphex style" bit is hilarious, and well-executed. every track he completely shuffles expectations, which i guess is also reminiscent of rdj.

Hmmm ... I was drawn to it from the Sherburne review as well, but I'm having trouble warming to it. I suppose it's because I hear the faintest bit of drill-n-bass in its whimisical, scattershot agenda, and I'm tired of that old, brittle, forced difficult-ness. But I know it's deeper than that, and I should give it another shot. I actually like "K.T.B." the most, but then I've got some old trip-hop ghosts in my closet.

I actually like the cheesy little hands-in-the-air synth parts that punctuate a lot of his songs. I also think Wuzzelbud makes a nice sonic companion to the Remute "Sad Little Inhuman Things" EP.

im in love with the first track.

The title track is getting a lot of repeat plays lately. There is something about that main arrhythmic DUH DUH DUH DUH DUH DUH DUH DUH riff that drives me mental. It is 100% mathematically precise and IQ-lowering at the same time.

Talk more about Muski Krause and Robag and Wighnomy here, plz.

adam.r.l. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 8 February 2005 17:39 (nineteen years ago) link

musik krause has a cool hedgehog logo.

"wurz + blosse" by the wighnomy bros (speicher 21 i think) was one of my favorite tunes last year. it sounds so good loud. i am a sucker for rhythmic disorientation and melancholy though.

they are the math rock of techno. lots of good paradoxical things going on in their music.

Wuzzelbud KK totally went under the radar last year. Can't get enough it nowadays, really addictive stuff and he knows how to built a groove.

"wurz + blosse" by the wighnomy bros (speicher 21 i think) was one of my favorite tunes last year.

ABSOLUTELY, drinking coffee and listening to this tune prompted me to do the best half hour of writing I have done this year. Propulsive!

Not so sure I like the math rock comparison, tricky! :(

Also, does Robag=Metaboman? I love all the Metabo mixes and also that funny "Stony" tune.

adam.r.l. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 8 February 2005 18:32 (nineteen years ago) link

i mean "math rock" figuratively rather than literally, does that make it better?

metaboman is a different guy afaik.

His new mix album on Kompakt, called Wuppdeckmischmampflow, is very good. Lots of layered tracks, moody, autumnal, but with another rhythmic punch that it hums along nicely. Best mix of this kind I've heard in a long time actually. Many times more interesting than Immer 3.

paulhw, Sunday, 16 January 2011 22:57 (thirteen years ago) link

Gabor/Robag is the best thing in that god-awful documentary about minimal, Speaking In Code. Can't wait to hear his new mix. I'd love to know more about him.

Not a lot of Thora Vukk talk on here (maybe on the rolling dance threads?) but I decided to give this a good hard listen after it featured in last year's OEY list and I must say it's a really wonderful record. Some stunning bits of rhythmic work in here, and even the ostensibly throwaway Brucke sections are very effective. It's a fairly digestible listen as well (under 40 mins or so?). So yes, very very nice.

I've said it on countless threads but Wuppdeckmischmampflow really is a great mix.
