First time I laughed out loud at something that guy wrote.

that was odd even by his standards

I read a good chunk of it until I gave up hope and bailed on it. It seemed to me he was trying much too hard to write comically, rather like a stand-up comic who constantly inserts long pauses in the story in order to pull a 'funny' face and stare at the audience, begging for laughter.

Every time I relate to Onstad he throws out some bit of internal cruelty or half-recanted aloofness for the human condition that turns me off until the next moment, the point where someone gets mad rutty with a bank teller

Is it still available on the website too?

Are the printed editions that were supposed to begin dropping last year still coming? Anyone like sic know why the Fantagraphics series petered out so soon?

The complete collections were due to start in June 2020; one can only guess at forces that may have delayed the first one, especially if the editor was traveling to the US to work on it.

Dark Horse did the fizzled-out hardcovers. Onstad is selling the original tape-bound books for $225-250 rn, and dropped a new issue of Beef’s zine in 2020.

I know some people think Achewood is corny and it fell off towards the end but the peak stuff was just wonderful, hilarious and beautiful

I've been a John Allison supporter on Patreon for a few years but he's gone off in directions that don't interest me, so I'm going to shift that support to Onstad and see how it goes.

I did start making weird faces when I read this, though
