I am sickly fascinated with this movie. It's so unbelievably terrible! I think I've seen it twice, as I had to watch again, because I didn't think it could be that outstandingly bad. It was.

Things that are so bad, I think they're fascinating:

The neon signs
The name of their bar: Cocktails and Dreams (!!!!)
The scene in the snooty nightclub with the yuppie poetry
The fact that they work at a TGIF
The college professor who belittles all his students
"Couglin's diet: cocktails and dreams."

Clueless rich brat tries to take a cruise to Hawaii, gets on the wrong
ship because something is in front of the sign, winds up drifting at
sea with the girl he's in love with, etc., etc.

i remember ages ago when some gals i knew were squealing with delight because tom cruise actually tended bar in a couple of upper west side joints as research for the role and they were going to check him out but i can't remember if they got there while he was still on duty

Maybe they put them together because the names have a nice ring. "Cocktail and Cabin Boy." They fight crime.

i never found coughlin's suicide convincing. he's a happy-go-lucky character, he'd have skipped off back to australia, or the caribbean, not ended it all.

The bar poem was bizarre enough (he said, rewatching), the bad flirting/sex scene that followed even more uh.

Also how did I miss that said photographer in sex scene was Gina Gershon! Between this and Showgirls she is the queen.
