admittedly i am not in love with the persistent no-break / 2 in. cuff trend that is STILL going on but otherwise the lookbook is major fall fashion boners, for me anyway

elmo argonaut, Friday, 30 September 2011 19:52 (twelve years ago) link

yeah roll the cuff down and that outfit is A+

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Friday, 30 September 2011 19:54 (twelve years ago) link

all fair isle everything

elmo argonaut, Thursday, 6 October 2011 14:16 (twelve years ago) link

<3 those but what would you ever wear them with

corey, Thursday, 6 October 2011 14:21 (twelve years ago) link

NOOOOOOOOOOOO

shetland is better

funk master friendly (moonship journey to baja), Thursday, 6 October 2011 14:52 (twelve years ago) link

you would wear them with straight leg pants so that they peek out

i think they would look good with like, olive green officer pants, a white shirt and a grey cable-knit cardigan. or like, very dark jeans and a big fuzzy sweater.

funk master friendly (moonship journey to baja), Thursday, 6 October 2011 14:53 (twelve years ago) link

like fair isle can be very nice, but i think plain shetland will look better longer and doesn't scream *trend*

anyway that's my plan for the season, on the lookout for something like this that is lasting quality but is not egregious expensive (under $250?). i think i could go land's end or ll bean for under $100 but i'm not convinced that stuffs not made in sweatshops. would be great to find a vintage piece but wool doesn't do so good in california.

funk master friendly (moonship journey to baja), Thursday, 6 October 2011 14:58 (twelve years ago) link

oops that's the hurling sweater not the shetland, but there's a shetland crewneck in the mix too

this might actually be my best option, though it is more than i can really spend right now: http://jpressonline.com/sweaters_shaggy_dog_detail.php?id=PLAINM727NAV

funk master friendly (moonship journey to baja), Thursday, 6 October 2011 15:04 (twelve years ago) link

i think i might get a cap

max, Thursday, 6 October 2011 15:07 (twelve years ago) link

what kind of cap

elmo argonaut, Thursday, 6 October 2011 15:20 (twelve years ago) link

like a beanie or a ballcap?

funk master friendly (moonship journey to baja), Thursday, 6 October 2011 15:24 (twelve years ago) link

will you wear the cap on top of the tophat or

just sayin, Thursday, 6 October 2011 15:24 (twelve years ago) link

a ballcap

max, Thursday, 6 October 2011 15:36 (twelve years ago) link

fair isle top hat

elmo argonaut, Thursday, 6 October 2011 15:36 (twelve years ago) link

to be worn with my top hat yes

max, Thursday, 6 October 2011 15:36 (twelve years ago) link

You guys are all so preppy. I approve.

Virginia Plain, Thursday, 6 October 2011 15:45 (twelve years ago) link

The 2-in cuff is so jodhpur like, I dislike.

Octavia Butler's gonna be piiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiised (Laurel), Thursday, 6 October 2011 15:48 (twelve years ago) link

unrelated but i am concerned about the cuffs on that shaggy dogg sweater

is it okay to have cuffs on a sweater? is it cool? is it ugly? i ask because all of mine don't and i think all of my mom's do.

funk master friendly (moonship journey to baja), Thursday, 6 October 2011 16:32 (twelve years ago) link

All my sweaters have cuffs because my arms are short and I push my sleeves up. Not sure what the official line is, but I think cuffs are a sign of quality b/c they show that slightly more material was used than absolutely bare-minimum necessary.

Octavia Butler's gonna be piiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiised (Laurel), Thursday, 6 October 2011 16:34 (twelve years ago) link

i have a gigantic head so i cannot wear most hats, i usually go for a chunky knit hat when absolutely needed but usually i go hatless and suffer

elmo argonaut, Thursday, 6 October 2011 16:34 (twelve years ago) link

aha that makes sense laurel. i should have known j crew was too cheap to make these sleeves longer.

funk master friendly (moonship journey to baja), Thursday, 6 October 2011 16:36 (twelve years ago) link

the ribbed cuff is nice i think

elmo argonaut, Thursday, 6 October 2011 16:36 (twelve years ago) link

but that's not usually folded-back is it? i meant a folded cuff, like a pant cuff.

funk master friendly (moonship journey to baja), Thursday, 6 October 2011 16:36 (twelve years ago) link

i think that really depends on the length of your arm and whether you like to show yr shirt cuffs. as long as the sleeve is relatively trim it should look fine if you fold it back.

elmo argonaut, Thursday, 6 October 2011 16:43 (twelve years ago) link

bought this aforementioned sweater:

im focusing on my cap project right now

max, Friday, 7 October 2011 12:50 (twelve years ago) link

can't believe i never post here as i am totally obsessed with clothes, it's probably due to my catholic reticience to talk freely about fashion, though it's subsided mostly in recent times, so here i am.

what i want:
orange scarf
a pair of brogues i want to wear every day (have a pair of saddle shoes and a sort of pointyish brogue but i feel i want a more casual pair)
maybe a cap of some kind...i love tweed caps but it's a bit "irishman" and lots of twats wear them. they would totally suit my golf detective fashion tho.
brown leather gloves
a suit...gonna go second hand, i find blazers all the time but always hard to get a suit that fits well, despite some lovely stuff being around.

i like the below jumper a lot too.

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Sunday, 9 October 2011 16:22 (twelve years ago) link

i bought a lovely dark brown vintage fur collar yesterday and i love it

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Sunday, 9 October 2011 16:24 (twelve years ago) link

despite my ethics and love of animals and opposition to slaughter for fashion purposes :( i just really love leather and really want a fur vest - i feel like it's a hypocritical thing of me to want, but i truly do respect clothes made out of animals more than i do synthetics (which is a whole other kettle of fish re: industry, craftmanship, etc) - at least they're items that last forever, can be repaired and well-loved. also my feet and synthetic fabric do not get along in any way, ouch ouch ouch.
also fur is so amazingly warm!! montreal was meant for wearing fur, not even kidding. i am torn...

I was inspired by Mireille Darc's sartorial choices in "Weekend" last night.

rrrobyn - at least it is vintage, right? i understand your fur concerns, and i think that your buying used is really a good testament to the virtues of durability and practicality you mentioned!

elmo argonaut, Monday, 10 October 2011 03:01 (twelve years ago) link

lots of tartans, btw

Is the cut of those orange pants the way things are going to go this fall? Because come on, that is really weird looking with the low crotch and the very tapered legs.

pullapartsquirrel (Jenny), Wednesday, 12 October 2011 23:46 (twelve years ago) link

im dressed pretty well this fall tbh

flopson, Thursday, 13 October 2011 00:03 (twelve years ago) link
