The show wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Well, her character at least. I'm all about making up songs for my dogs. Her awkward moments ranged from lame to funny. I'll probably watch another episode

i just saw this on an airplane too. not that bad, zd's character is more believable and likable than i was expecting. there was srsly 0% "hipster" content.

but most of the humor is based on "LOL CHICKS/LOL DUDES". no real desire to see another episode, but that's based more on how i don't really enjoy most sitcoms.

had already watched the pilot on demand barely paying attention, ended up rewatching some of it while waiting for Raising Hope to start and it was better than i remembered (or noticed) the first time. but a lot of that owes to the guys in the cast, and a lot of that owes to the guy that only did that one episode and then ended up in Happy Endings.

i dunno if this show was ever pitched as being hipstery or about hipsters tbh -- just a lot of magazine profiles going COULD THE NEXT BIG TV STAR BE MRS. DEATH CAB? etc

I make up songs for the dog on a daily basis p much.

Ha true. The most recent was 'He's a woofer" set to the theme of "He's a Rebel" cause he was being noisy and wouldn't shut up. I had hoped my singing would soothe and quiet him. It did not.

ha this is OTM, I am very sad to see DWJr leave the cast

I wonder if they are going to do anything with the whole "we have two new roommates but the show is going to focus on the famous one" scenario they've set themselves up for.

in the fall tv thread i believe i suggested the title change "The New Girl, The New Black Guy And A Pizza Place"

some dude, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 13:57 (twelve years ago) link

ha yeah, I saw that

I was mad that I couldn't find a link to the theme song yesterday to torture strongo but searching "new girl theme song" today has been a bonanza

The pilot is pretty funny, certainly stronger than, say any random episode of "Happy Endings" (which I like)

yeah honestly its not really 'annoying' just sorta 'mediocre'

"Time of My Life" shit was awful. Otherwise, not bad. I'll watch the next episode. She somehow managed to sell a character I'd probably find unbearable played by anyone else.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Wednesday, 21 September 2011 21:54 (twelve years ago) link

the "Time Of My Life" shit was hilarious, esp. since the douchebag roommate was the only one who knew the words (also the quickness with which they were kicked out of the restaurant; btw was the hostess the bad cop from the new Charlie's Angels?)

That may have been the only time I've ever heard someone sing the national anthem straight, without showing off. Good for her (I guess?)

frogbs, Monday, 24 October 2011 16:09 (twelve years ago) link

The most amazing thing about these pics is the undoubted fact that ZD spent at least a dozen hours of deep thought before deciding on that dress.

Aimless, Monday, 24 October 2011 16:09 (twelve years ago) link

Also I think ZD is smart enough to know her voice is not of the show-offy style...

Waxahachie Swap (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Monday, 24 October 2011 16:11 (twelve years ago) link

thats definitely true, it was just refreshing to hear it done straight for once
still kinda shitty that Fox had a star from their own show sing the National Anthem when normally her name would never come up

i don't have much time for Z.D. (she and him is bad-not-terrible IMO; though i think the aggressive Z.D. hating is 60% narcissism-of-small-differences stuff) but this rendition of the S.S.B. surprised me for really ducking the trend of oversinging. i actually listened to the lyrics (which aren't very good honestly but whatevs) for the first time in a long time.

so mark one in Z.D.'s column.

the apache helicopters after she was done was a nice touch, perhaps her sitcom should consider adding apache helicopters?

flesh, the devil, and a wolf (wolf) (amateurist), Monday, 24 October 2011 18:44 (twelve years ago) link

I hated how she just let herself run out of breath and just mouthed the last word or two of each line
