its right on fullerton a couple buildings west of the intersection @ fullerton and kimball, an easy walk from kedzie. pbr/old style on tap for 2 bucks, they have djs playing decent music, apparently its already getting pretty packed on weekends but its a nice spot for weekdays because logan sq only really has the whirlaway as a bar catering to cuet girls and not burly old dudes

deej, Thursday, 27 September 2007 04:55 (sixteen years ago) link

that is right near where I live and i had no idea it existed!

horseshoe, Thursday, 27 September 2007 04:55 (sixteen years ago) link

logan square drinking = small bar or helen's two way inn for me.

oh, and the occasional el cid margarita.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 27 September 2007 05:04 (sixteen years ago) link

ive never been to helens, where is that?
forgot about small bar

deej, Thursday, 27 September 2007 05:07 (sixteen years ago) link

does ronny's count as logan square? it's north of armitage so i would assume so. what's the eastern boundry of logan square?

xpost- helen's two way in: one entrance on milwaukee, one entrance on fullerton.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 27 September 2007 05:09 (sixteen years ago) link

i just gis'd it and it's helen's two way LOUNGE. the two way inn was a bar in memphis that closed a year and a half ago. two years ago this weekend i was getting way fucked up in the midsouth at the two way inn.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 27 September 2007 05:11 (sixteen years ago) link

Two Way" refers to the bar's two entrances—one on Fullerton and one on Milwaukee, but the "lounge" reference is beyond me. If you ask me, I'd call it "Helen's Two Inn." (Get it?)(emphasis mine) But moving on, this is a grizzled, old-timers spot for sure: The night I dropped in, everyone was on a first-name basis (except for me), and a dog wandered in and out of stool-legs before clunking down beneath the pool table. There's even a stage should any aspiring musicians want to share a tiny amount of floor space.

Frosty drafts (accent on frosty—the mugs are nice and cold) of Old Style will set you back a grand total of $1.25, knocked back to a buck on Mondays and Thursdays. In true Chicago roadhouse tradition, if you want something else on draft, you better hike down to Quenchers—it's Old Style, and only Old Style, in here. If you're looking to get all fancy-pants, turn to the three boxes of Franzia wine sitting behind the counter.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 27 September 2007 05:12 (sixteen years ago) link

ronny's counts (eastern boundary is california, when you're that far south...i assume?)

original small bar is OG, and still good, i think.

i almost typed "i have never been to helen's" but then i realized that i have, once. two years ago, almost.

river wolf, Thursday, 27 September 2007 05:13 (sixteen years ago) link

i should like quenchers more than i do. i just can't stand the place and i don't really have a good reason why.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 27 September 2007 05:15 (sixteen years ago) link

oh i've totally been to helens. i never really associated it w/ a name

quenchers i'm lukewarm on too

pretty sure that armitage is the southern boundary of logan, and western is the eastern boundary

deej, Thursday, 27 September 2007 05:20 (sixteen years ago) link

totally off tropic (mmm... tropics):

Jenny, right now, for reasons unrelated to anything that will earn me money or advance me in life in any way, I am reading about and discussing with a friend online the Commerce Clause. This is some shit, lemme tell ya. It doesn't even make sense as a law.

EVERYTHING is commerce. Everything that is bought or sold, ever, anywhere, is commerce, and so falls under this definition technically.
And the "channels," "instrumentalities," and "actions that substantially affect" this commerce basically encompass all human activity on the planet.

Except maybe, like, fucking. That seems to fall outside its jurisdiction.

I'm lost, but at least after reading all this shit, I don't feel alone.

kenan, Thursday, 27 September 2007 05:20 (sixteen years ago) link

quenchers is too "theme-y" for me. though i do appreciate the personal pizzas.

xp *_*

river wolf, Thursday, 27 September 2007 05:21 (sixteen years ago) link

Except maybe, like, fucking. That seems to fall outside its jurisdiction.

And that's only because prostitution is illegal!

kenan, Thursday, 27 September 2007 05:22 (sixteen years ago) link

the two way is open 365 days a year and will be where i'm spending xmas this year. if there are any other chicago "orphans" with nothing to do for the holidays let's go there and open presents. and by presents i mean cans of old style.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 27 September 2007 05:30 (sixteen years ago) link

hmm, lots of bar options. i wish i liked beer, it would mean even more options.

i think toby and i are here for xmas but as i don't drink beer, i'm not sure only old style is such a way for me to celebrate. but it kinda sounds awesome nonetheless.

colette, Thursday, 27 September 2007 05:48 (sixteen years ago) link

What is the theme of quenchers? At least they have a decent bottle selection.

Jeff, Thursday, 27 September 2007 11:31 (sixteen years ago) link

Wow. I did not realize it was so early when I wrote "why am I still up." I went to bed and read less than a page before I started going to sleep.

I woke up to find yet ANOTHER zit!!!! Why? That's 3, and they're all on the left side of my face.

Jesse, Thursday, 27 September 2007 12:02 (sixteen years ago) link

I thought Western was the eastern boundary of Logan Square. If it isn't, what's between Wicker Park/Bucktown (which end at Western) and Logan Square?

n/a, Thursday, 27 September 2007 12:09 (sixteen years ago) link

wikipedia: The community area of Logan Square is, in general, bounded by the NIRC railroad on the west, the North Branch of the Chicago River on the east, Diversey Avenue on the north, and the SOO Line railroad on the south.

That isn't very helpful.

n/a, Thursday, 27 September 2007 12:10 (sixteen years ago) link

Dragons?

Jesse, Thursday, 27 September 2007 12:11 (sixteen years ago) link

Man, the "Farm" entry on Wikipedia continues to annoy me. Fucking vegans defaced it with statements about "dairy farms are places where female animals...are exploited as though they were objects."

Jesse, Thursday, 27 September 2007 12:16 (sixteen years ago) link

According to the experts at ChicagoHome.com:

North Boundary: 2800 N Diversey
South Boundary: 2400 N Fullerton
East Boundary: 2400 W Western
West Boundary: 3600 W Central Park

One more day of reprieve, Edens construction doesn't start until 10 PM tomorrow night.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Thursday, 27 September 2007 12:20 (sixteen years ago) link

That doesn't seem right either ... what would be south of Fullerton? Humboldt Park?

n/a, Thursday, 27 September 2007 12:20 (sixteen years ago) link

I like Quenchers, except for the name, which I find dumb, and the guy who kept reaching into the popcorn thing with his bare pee paws instead of using the scoop, which I found repulsive.

I am not talking about the Commerce Clause on the internet.

Jenny, Thursday, 27 September 2007 12:21 (sixteen years ago) link

i wish there were a place i would feel comfortable dancing. i LOVE dancing. more specifically, i love dancing with people i know. dancing with people i don't know is considerably less fun.

quenchers sounds like a really bad north carolina bar. i know it's not, but it sounds like one. to me.

La Lechera, Thursday, 27 September 2007 12:26 (sixteen years ago) link

Place for dancing: Chic-a-go-go. Plus you get to be on TV.

n/a, Thursday, 27 September 2007 12:27 (sixteen years ago) link

And they tape on Saturday morning, when you have energy.

n/a, Thursday, 27 September 2007 12:28 (sixteen years ago) link

Humboldt Park is pretty big, but I don't remember seeing maps that showed it going that far North.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Thursday, 27 September 2007 12:28 (sixteen years ago) link

you don't get it. i do NOT want to be on TV.

also i work sat. mornings.

La Lechera, Thursday, 27 September 2007 12:29 (sixteen years ago) link

watch as logan square gets bigger and bigger as real estate prices rise

La Lechera, Thursday, 27 September 2007 12:30 (sixteen years ago) link

The answer to the dancing issue is:

More weddings.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Thursday, 27 September 2007 12:34 (sixteen years ago) link

watch as logan square gets bigger and bigger as real estate prices rise

or watch logan square get smaller as realtors make up fake names for the nice parts of logan square and divide up the neighborhood.

cray-cray
Ha ha ha, John.

Ok, so this is the second time I've seen the word felch this week, so I finally looked it up in a slang dictionary online. I already wish I could go back to the halcyon days of not knowing.

Jordan, What is the vacay for? A tour? Something else?

I love love love dancing and I will go dancing whenever whereever with you people. Just name a date and place.

KitCat, Thursday, 27 September 2007 13:34 (sixteen years ago) link

Jeff, How old are you now? Just 29, right?

KitCat, Thursday, 27 September 2007 13:35 (sixteen years ago) link

Colette - I was searching old threads about BOOTS because I have boots on the brain, and I found this pair of boots you posted which look alot like the ones I first posted upthread. How were/are they?

KitCat, Thursday, 27 September 2007 13:39 (sixteen years ago) link

Jeff has to be 28 or younger, because he is younger than me.

n/a, Thursday, 27 September 2007 13:41 (sixteen years ago) link

Nick, when did you say before is the best time to ask for something from your boss?

KitCat, Thursday, 27 September 2007 13:50 (sixteen years ago) link

I don't think I did say?

n/a, Thursday, 27 September 2007 13:52 (sixteen years ago) link

Because I don't know?

n/a, Thursday, 27 September 2007 13:52 (sixteen years ago) link

Weird. I thought you'd done a story on it or something. I remember that one good time is after he/she has had their coffee for the day, but my boss doesn't drink coffee.

KitCat, Thursday, 27 September 2007 13:53 (sixteen years ago) link

Jordan, What is the vacay for? A tour? Something else?

pseudo-tour, the same overseas jazz festival we did a couple times before except a week longer this time

Jordan, Thursday, 27 September 2007 14:29 (sixteen years ago) link

Where will you be heading this time? Do you know?

KitCat, Thursday, 27 September 2007 14:32 (sixteen years ago) link

The main thing is in Ascona, Switzerland, but we'll be there a week ahead of time to go around a do promo shows in nearby towns and in Northern Italy, I think.

I've still never been on a real tour (which in my mind = longer than 5 days and playing every show in a new place) but it's a pretty cushy gig. :>
