jeez i always get confused by the whole derby / blucher / oxford thing wrt shoes

shackets seem like perfect for SF weather. the patrik ervell 'fall shirt' i posted above is basically a 'shacket'; i wear it over buttondowns

ive seen the varsity jackets around for a while, i just have never really been into them for how i dress, but i really liked that PE one so my eyes are open to them now

s0 tempted by a pair of winter weight cotton rag+bone trousers that are 50% off atm

where would one look for fair isle sweaters that aren't incredibly expensive (and please don't say "google")

hit up a thrift store, maybe? i really depends on yr budget and what you're looking for.

rag & bone trousers are nice, i got a pair of chinos there on major major sale (like they cost less than gap sale) and love them. i dunno about some of their other women's stuff though, it's not quite right to me. overdesigned or something

j crew kills me because they do very nice work with styling and yet the quality of their women's clothes is just trash lately. sure i want those cropped trousers in red or fuchsia but the fabric is so cheap they don't even look right on the size 0 model who has to stand in an awkward pose so you don't notice as much

would totally buy those crewneck sweaters if they made a women's version though. nice

fair isle: ebay or etsy? like if you search several terms and variations on the spelling of it & search for just things like sweater + wool + scotland. if i were in new england i'd go to church thrift shops and look..

for that kind of thing i'd probably try to get vintage if possible because you can actually find a decent quality piece, whereas if you buy new it'd have to cost a couple hundred before you get out of the range of cheap/throwaway clothes

the only thing is i've noticed about looking for fair isle / nordic / figural sweaters on eBay is that it's totally corrupted by this phenomenon of "ugly christmas sweater parties"

i ordered one of j crews 'ludlow' jackets this summer for a wedding and was kind of shocked at how poor quality it was for $400. returned and got a slightly less well made but much better fitting jacket from uniqlo for $100

i also have a longsleeve henley from them and the buttons broke w/in like 4 weeks

on the other hand ive had a few j crew tees for like 8 years now and they still look/feel/fit great

i really don't like j crew shirting at all, it's pretty bad tbh, but i've never had any trouble with anything wool from j crew

their dress shirts have horrible fits iirc, but their sweaters and t-shirts fit (me) great

my other fall fashion complaint for women's is that all these low priced stores have discovered celine. and if you rip off celine, it's not like you can do anything to distract from v low quality fabrics and materials.

I'm wondering how to fit a "Death on the Installment Plan" joke into that.

People looking for red women's pants (quince, definitely): a coworker of mine bought some red pants from Victoria's Secret, which I recognize is kind of gross, but she loves them and they look amazing on her. She's at least 6 feet tall, too.

I can't speak to quality, but then again, red pants don't strike me as a thing that you need to worry about lasting more than two, three years at the outside given the vagaries of fashion.
