It's like this guy was born to have his name drawn in shaky hand-written capital letters in the credits to a quirky coming-of-age movie.

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 14 September 2011 12:28 (twelve years ago) link

He's fucking horrific.

Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Wednesday, 14 September 2011 12:28 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah for that and for (writing) "Could Just Be The Bassline" at least I can't fully hate Sheeran.

Tim F, Wednesday, 14 September 2011 12:40 (twelve years ago) link

In fact probably the best non-club-remix version of "Could Just Be The Bassline" is the one that interweaves Kai Lavelle's vocals and Sheeran's unreleased vocals to make a duet:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTUIpS4-Aoc

Tim F, Wednesday, 14 September 2011 12:43 (twelve years ago) link

wow why has someone not released that as a main thing already

r|t|c, Wednesday, 14 September 2011 12:51 (twelve years ago) link

Sheeran's record label won't let his vocals near it apparently, hence the female vocalist replacing him.

Which is ridiculous b/c it's far and away the best thing he's been involved in.

Tim F, Wednesday, 14 September 2011 13:12 (twelve years ago) link

i beg to differ: http://open.spotify.com/album/43yGRbMKLAjdA0l45HAX7N

Tim F, Wednesday, 14 September 2011 13:21 (twelve years ago) link

i think you have happened upon the diabolical logic there actually

r|t|c, Wednesday, 14 September 2011 13:25 (twelve years ago) link

would that this outbreak of good sense had occurred re: his album as well

Well the good news for you Lex is that you can enjoy "Could Just Be The Bassline" without him.

"and in a pipe she sails to the motherland / or sells her love to another man" = worst lyric of 2011?

r|t|c, Wednesday, 14 September 2011 13:31 (twelve years ago) link

flies to the motherland even (disbelieving subconscious improving it already)

r|t|c, Wednesday, 14 September 2011 13:32 (twelve years ago) link

haha.

His fans seem to love "they say I'm up and coming like I'm fucking in an elevator".

This analogy doesn't actually work as well as he and they seem to think.

Tim F, Wednesday, 14 September 2011 13:39 (twelve years ago) link

so guess which psychopath thought he'd listen to this album?

next time anyone feels they must surely have now heard the worst shit ever i urge them to seek out 'wake me up', an excruciating litany of student bedsit twee cutesyisms in the vague form of a song. just staggering.

r|t|c, Wednesday, 14 September 2011 15:12 (twelve years ago) link

i would transcribe something from it for delectation but for a very real and grave fear i'd instantly be turned into a pillar of salt

Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Wednesday, 14 September 2011 15:21 (twelve years ago) link

And I know you love shrek
Because we've watched it 12 times

And maybe you're hoping for a fairy tale too
And if your dvd ever breaks today
You shoulda got a vcr because I've never own a blue ray, true say

I know I've always been shit at computer games because your brother always
Beats me
And if I lost, I go across and chuck all the controllers at the tv

And you laugh at me
And be asking me
If ima be home next week
Then lie with me, till I fall asleep
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/e/ed_sheeran/wake_me_up.html ]
And flutter eye lash at me between the sheets
And you will never know just how beautiful you are to me
And maybe I'm just in love when you wake me up
And I think you hate the smell of smoke
You always try to get to stop

But you drink as much as me
And I get drunk a lot

So I take you to the beach
And walk along the sand
And I'll make you a heart pendant
With a pebble held in my hand

And I'll carve it like this necklace
So the heart falls where your chest is
So a piece of me is a piece of the beach
And it fallls just where it needs to be
And rests peacefully

So you just need to beathe to feel my heart against your now
Maybe I'm just in love when you wake me up
Maybe I'm just in love when you wake me up
Maybe I gfell in love when you woke me up

When a German communicates, you listen (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 14 September 2011 18:53 (twelve years ago) link

well, i'm not denying the second, i just think the first is....irrelevant, personally speaking.

talking heads, quiet smith (darraghmac), Wednesday, 14 September 2011 18:57 (twelve years ago) link

it would be if it was just a one-off or something, but it's actually a widespread thing for uk musicians to rep for nandos. they're all given nandos cards etc for free food.

oh god, just encountered this guy.

one of these dudes (sometimes fronting a band) shows up every few years. i trace a line from dave matthews to jason mraz (sp?) to this guy, with some other folks i'd rather forget filling out the lineage. there's something these guys do with the rhythm guitar, i can't explain it or ID it, but it is supposed to signify "funky" when the music hardly has any bottom and much less any rhythmic interplay that remotely resembles anything i know to be funk.
