yeah NYC was pitch black as well. it also boasted the highest male-to-female ratio i've ever seen at a show.

The show in Toronto was incredible. Autechre started with the harsh, jackhammer beats -- think track 1 on the "Basscadet" ep -- moved on to skittery stuff like the "Draft 7:30" and "Untilted" tracks, and ended with chaos. They played for about 90 minutes in total.

i bet that the women at the nyc show were the coolest ever. girls be discussing the algorithmic alchemy.

The Toronto show was indeed great if exhausting. Did you ever find out who the openers were? #2 was pretty damn good.

I enjoyed Untilted quite a bit on first listen. In a weird way it reminds me of listening to things like drum solos or West African drum circles. I might like it more than Draft 7.30 (the only other one I have) but that might just be because it seems to have more straight grooves.

haha you obviously weren't at the squarepusher show in boston - I was shocked.
I have to admit, this definitely puts me off going to some shows if Im not feeling particularly motivated to begin with. I skipped the ae nyc & boston shows cos Im not really feelin the new one enough to justify the drive & $$
anyway yeah, I don't know why there is such poor female attendance at these kind of shows. I can't think of a single good reason for it.

According to the schedule on Warp's website, SND are playing all dates on the tour incl. Canada.

I saw SND a couple of years ago and they were similarly awesome. I have no idea why their records are so boring in comparison to their live sets.

one month passes...
Got 'Untilted' prior to seeing them live this weekend, it's alright maybe it will grow on me more (only 2 full listens). I like the first three tracks best, they seem to have a really propulsive broken-groove about them, but without just banging the point home. After those it seems to slip into business as usual, not a huge amount of variation. 'The Trees' seemed to stand out more this time.

But, it does seem to be all about the 'craft' and little else here to me. Doesn't feel like a significant advance in sound compared to the records I know by them (Tri Repetae, Chiastic Slide, LP5) but I do love how smudgy, oily and dark it all feels, it's a very 'live' sounding record. Sublimit' is a bit of an anticlimactic closing track compared to some of their other work though. Doesn't really surpass, or expand my expectations of them as a whole record.

Even at a very reasonable home-listening volume... Untilted is one bastard LOUD record, at least for the first three tracks. I think they might be worth the price I paid for this (cheap promo in card sleeve) alone.

anybody going to see them in Camden (koko is it?) on september 17? i am tempted to make the journey down but not sure whether it will be worth the large train fare.

I am feeling too old for this. Doors at 11? C'mon! I need to be tucked up in bed with a mug of steaming Horlicks by 12 at the latest.

Plus getting home from Camden after tubes have finished = a bitch.

Can someone convince me to get Untilted even though I already have Confield and Draft?

Leeeeeeee (Leee), Sunday, 21 August 2005 00:29 (eighteen years ago) link

It's better than Draft and more enjoyable than Confield.

Lukas (lukas), Sunday, 21 August 2005 01:54 (eighteen years ago) link

it's okay. i must admit for a band i once thought were infallible i'm really starting to lose my patience with them.

unfortunately dog latin is also right.

Can't remember, sing it and i'll tell ya...

Oh it's one of the first three off tri repetae, they're all solid gold; the exemplary tracks on an exemplary album.

Wonder what they're up to now.
