Great episode! It's amazing that they managed to fit in so many great subplots.

I liked it a lot, and it was the first time I've heard of any of the niche North American sport stars it feautured.

Laughed a lot a episode 9, best of this season, especially Susie in the car. Leon was on form too.

Kinda missing Funkhouser & Richard a little though.

not_goodwin, Wednesday, 7 September 2011 06:27 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah Leon was great in this ep, he's been great all season though. Bit disappointed by Jeff and Susie so far - Jeff needs to do more conspiring and sneaking around and Susie needs to unleash the fury more often.

Supporting characters were absolutely A++++ in this ep. The softball mechanic dude was hilarious, see also Larry's shrink. If I could laugh and stare in openmouthed horror at the same time I would have been doing that during the "director, let's say he directed Star Wars, he liked to visit prostitutes" scene.

Cosign. Few things make me happier than watching Richard berate Larry over some miniscule point of principle.

Yeah, I had no idea who any of the people were but it wasn't difficult to get it. I wonder if George Lucas is as good a sport as Buckner? What was mystifying was seeing the late Clement Freud playing Larry's therapist.

And the bonus Jonathan Ames appearance was nice.

and is it just a Parkinson's?

serious questions to consider till the next season start.

great episode.

I was disappointed by this episode. To me it looked like they'll be back in LA next season without any continuity with what happened at the end of this season.

The pillow sham was amazing.

Michael J killed it in this. I also found the really fake Paris pretty funny.

Inevitable stupid samba mix (chap), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 04:14 (twelve years ago) link

watched 1-9 w/hangover on saturday and ep 10 last night

classic series imo, top 3

Crackle Box, Tuesday, 13 September 2011 09:09 (twelve years ago) link

Michael J Fox stuff felt really obvious and half-arsed, but it was worth it for Leon's "he gives you a cock, shakes that cock up, get sperm all up in your face". Leon has been absolutely classic this series. Jeff and Susie not so much.

The stuff with the kid was really funny though - "get a life, Jews!" Loved the fake Paris as well.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 13 September 2011 09:35 (twelve years ago) link

Curiously uninvolved by the second half of this series really. It's been okay, it's definitely had its moments (Palestinian Chicken etc), overall it's been one of the worst series (I don't have much love for S4 but that at least has the amazing Car Pool Lane episode).

Matt DC, Tuesday, 13 September 2011 09:36 (twelve years ago) link

dunno if i could pick the worst curb series, even when this show is on autopilot i still enjoy it more than pretty much anything else on tv

Crackle Box, Tuesday, 13 September 2011 09:50 (twelve years ago) link

The worst season was S5, hands down. I loved S4 at the time, but it's been years since I've seen any of the episodes and I'm not sure how well they hold up. S7 is a grower. S8 may have been the best of them all but I should re-watch the early seasons at some point.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Tuesday, 13 September 2011 13:20 (twelve years ago) link

I've seen every episode and I have no idea which show was in which season

Ha, yeah, I think of Leon saying "Barack Obama, motherfucker!" with some regularity.

finally caught up on season 7 and 8, I'm thrilled with how well this show has rebounded.

"Mister Softee" was one of those that was like a great Seinfeld episode where you look back and wonder how the hell they managed to cram so many plots into one episode. Is a Series 9 coming soon?

frogbs, Monday, 19 August 2013 15:57 (ten years ago) link

that film that was just out on hbo is just a long (good) episode of curb. recommended. weirdly underpromoted though, so much so i can't even remember what it's called.

NI, Monday, 19 August 2013 17:43 (ten years ago) link

"Max's Original Starship" Vol. 3 (sunny successor), Monday, 19 August 2013 19:23 (ten years ago) link

It's called Clear History. And LD is being non-committal about when/if CYE is coming back.

nickn, Monday, 19 August 2013 20:42 (ten years ago) link

i thought they were filming the next season of CYE more than a year ago

"Max's Original Starship" Vol. 3 (sunny successor), Monday, 19 August 2013 22:16 (ten years ago) link

nah, it's not up there with the killer episodes of curb but it's decent enough. full disclosure: i've been trying to fill the LD void with louis ck's weak shit so maybe i'm giving this new film too much leeway

NI, Friday, 23 August 2013 19:11 (ten years ago) link

I was down for a whole day with stomach stuff and watched Clear History in a sleep-deprived haze, but really enjoyed it. It's totally throwaway, not as funny as Curb, but it had some fun people in it and was just very...fluffy and amiable. It reminded me of some of the recent Woody Allen caper-ish movies like Small Time Crooks. I think any fan of Larry who has seen all of Curb would find something to like in it, but otherwise it's not going to convert anyone. I was certainly glad of it that day and now plan to visit Martha's Vineyard when I have a chance.

admrl's assesment of Clear History is right on the money. I recommend it!!

frogbs, Monday, 18 November 2013 17:49 (ten years ago) link

my gf had never seen curb your enthusiasm before, so a few nights i excitedly cued up season 1, episode 1. i remembered it as being really funny (it's the tent pants episode), but man, i didn't realize how painfully terrible the acting was in the early episodes! it was a little hard to watch - i suppose they hadn't gotten their characters down yet, or the whole improvising off of an outline thing. i skipped ahead to an episode from season 4 and it was like watching a totally different show.

reckless woo (Z S), Monday, 18 November 2013 17:52 (ten years ago) link

You skipped directly to Season Four, of all seasons? 2-3 are a cut above everything else IMO, there's loads of great stuff throughout but those two are majestic.

Matt DC, Monday, 18 November 2013 19:36 (ten years ago) link

oh, it was a skip ahead just for a single episode. it was more of a plea, like, "no i swear the acting isn't normally this bad, it's actually quite good, here check out any episode that is not one of the first few!"

reckless woo (Z S), Monday, 18 November 2013 19:39 (ten years ago) link

I think the later seasons have considerably less improvisation in them as well.

Matt DC, Monday, 18 November 2013 19:40 (ten years ago) link

Clear History is appalling. It's definitely reminiscent of latter-day Woody Allen in that it's a load of ostensibly funny people in a completely humourless movie

I did not know that was Kate Hudson either
