Sounds like sound advice. Although I'm still wanting to find a deal on some castelli ones. I now have castelli tights and bibs and they are very very comfy.

Americans - more Jenson bargains. I love Descente gloves, and well fancy these - shipping to the UK makes them non-viable, sadly.

Good to know. I transferred to a new office in March, and am now two miles away from Jenson's HQ/warehouse.

Cheapish Giro helmets for the brand loyal? http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/news/products/q/date/2011/09/14/giro-helmets-2011-closeout

I have a giro Monza and 50 quid is a bargain. The 100 for the ionios is also very good dealing indeed.

I'd pick the fulcrums based on spoke count alone, but I am a heavier rider.

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Saturday, 17 September 2011 21:53 (twelve years ago) link

One thing about fulcrums, really noisy freewheel, al though a couple of night rides ago I did hear noisier, may have been mavic.

Is this of use to anyone (UK based)?

You can get mavic open pros hand-laced to ultegra hubs for <$200 where I live. Incredibly durable wheelset and high performance value.

Any links (or phone numbers)? I have a set of Open 4 CDs w/ Record hubs on my old bike, and love them. Thought I'd be priced out of anything Mavic other than Aksiums.

Alert alert

Specialized Bicycle Components Recalls Bicycles Due to Fall Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Description: This recall involves the following nine, 2011 model year bicycles with Advanced Group carbon forks: Sirrus Expert, Sirrus Comp, Sirrus Elite, Vita Expert, Vita Comp, Vita Elite, Vita Elite Step Thru, Tricross Sport, Tricross, and Tricross Comp. Could someone point out what is so lust worthy about those FSA wheels to me?

citation needed (Steve Shasta), Thursday, 3 November 2011 21:12 (twelve years ago) link

Well nothing to YOU, obviously. But for us noobs it puts a non-starter wheelset into our price range.

Mark C, Thursday, 3 November 2011 22:45 (twelve years ago) link

How much do a set of Mavic open pros laced (by hand) to Ultegra hubs run in the UK? It has to be lower than £200, ya?

citation needed (Steve Shasta), Thursday, 3 November 2011 22:48 (twelve years ago) link

Couple oh hundred quid from rose bikes ( German iirc?). Not many hits in the uk though on that combination. Haven't checked out ribble's wheel offers lately...

realcyclist has craft pro race bibs for $65. they are not bad, worth $65 imo.

dead precedents politics as usual (Hunt3r), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 16:48 (twelve years ago) link

Mavic shoes have been on Bonktown a lot recently (realcyclist too). I really like mine they seem to work well with my narrow feet.

Caveat though, they mainly seem to have yellow and white left, not the more sensible grey.
