Well we already know that Pitchfork thought the greatest album of last decade, St. Anger, was only worth a 0.8 so I'm extrapolating the value added by Lou Reed.

just pulled this up. 100% sure there are many lols within but I couldn't make it past the second paragraph.

I haven't heard a single note and I've already pitched a review to The Wire.

that's not funny. (unperson), Monday, 29 August 2011 20:14 (twelve years ago) link

here's my review, to be published soon on pfork, 10.0
"This is the best thing Lou ever did. And he did it with the best group he could possibly find on the planet. By definition, everybody involved was honest. This has come into the world pure. They pushed as far as they possibly could within the realms of reality. It’s maybe the best thing done by anyone, ever. It could create another planetary system."

Pitchfork is going to look pretty foolish after giving the Kanye album a 10.0 and they have to invent a new rating for this album. I propose 10.o_0

"This," concludes Lou, "is the best thing I ever did. And I did it with the best group I could possibly find on the planet. By definition, everybody involved was honest. This has come into the world pure. We pushed as far as we possibly could within the realms of reality."

The last time he started frothing like this, it was about Growing Up In Public. And St Anger would have hit 90 minutes if they hadn't cut the guitar solos out.

at 141 minutes, "Some Kind of Monster" is way too short.

Shoulda been an MTV series.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 29 August 2011 21:37 (twelve years ago) link

Throughout two years of filming, over 1,000 hours of video were recorded, documenting the band's recording process.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 29 August 2011 21:37 (twelve years ago) link

man i'm seriously praying to god that they are documenting these recording sessions

velvet underground - reloaded (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 29 August 2011 21:38 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah, but then they cut out the solo scenes.

(xpost)

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Monday, 29 August 2011 21:38 (twelve years ago) link

they got all the Lulu sessions on video but they had to destroy them because they were too harrowing.

I wonder if Lou refers to the "Black Album" as the "Colored Album".

Death To False Camp (Doran), Monday, 29 August 2011 21:49 (twelve years ago) link

Lou has never heard The Black Album.
Lou has never heard any Metallica.

"Do you people have a curfew or anything like that? Does it matter what time you go home tonight? Do you have school tomorrow? Because we can do some normal length songs or a dozen twenty minute long tracks with no solos, whichever makes it easier for you.”

This does work but "Rime of the Ancient Mancunian" is even more apt.
