Art Adams could do a fine job on various H Ryder Haggard style Victorian tales of derring-do.

eight years pass...

Revive.

I remember a similar thread on the old Comics Journal forum. The only suggestions I remember were Corben doing Heart Of Darkness and P Craig Russell on Ayn Rand's books.

Picked up BALLADS with art from Charles Vess, writers like Neil Gaiman and Charles DeLint adapting folk ballads. The ballads are creepy as hell and considerable liberties are taken in adaptation, which is all to the good. The art is wonderful. The recommended discography at the end makes this book feel ten or twenty years older than it is ('97).

I had an older version of this. I think Vess did multiple versions of some of these?

Well shoot, you're right and now I want to read the version with Three Lovers.

I had two different versions of Alison Gross, might have even used completely different drawings by him.

I think one was from Frank Frazetta Illustrated.
