When I was a novice, the one that got me into them was "Heathen Earth". I bought it out of curiosity - it looked weird & interesting, didn't get it at all at first, but something kept me coming back & listening to it again. Soon enough, it was one of my favourite records.
For more music in a similar-ish vein, I'd go along with whoever suggested Coil, as well as (early) Cabaret Voltaire.

Look, I'd go to any damn thing if Genesis was involved. The PTV3 show here last year was a revelation and three times better than I'd expected. You'd be a damn fool to miss this.
