cut it out you two
enh, this girl is nice enough, but i think she's the sort of person who would never really be able to get along with my friends. she's like, a vegan and a bike activist, and all my friends are layabout smokers and carnivores who own cars.
i like them a lot better.
― river wolf, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 22:07 (sixteen years ago) link
also: interested in THEATER.
ABORT!!!!!!!!!
― river wolf, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 22:08 (sixteen years ago) link
she's like, a vegan and a bike activist
that sounds easy enough to get past. The real question is, does she rock?
― kenan, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 22:11 (sixteen years ago) link
I suddenly have a crush.
― jaymc, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 22:11 (sixteen years ago) link
Actually, haha, vegan bike activists who are interested in theatre seem more likely to be smokers than most people.
― jaymc, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 22:13 (sixteen years ago) link
haha! she likes the rock and roll, yes, but she's a bit hand-wavey about it. "big," hammy personality. we went to the Smiths night last night (UH), and she's an excellent dancer.
(it's funny, normally the vegan/bike thing would be bonus! but she's very IN YR FACE about it)
xp you'd think so, right???
― river wolf, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 22:14 (sixteen years ago) link
actually john i think you two would get along well! she's really very nice!
also, from St. Croix USVI originally, wtf who is from there.

hahahahaha mattttt is locked out of the house
― dan m, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 22:19 (sixteen years ago) link
Oh, well... yeah. To each his own, but for me that would not only make dating her impossible, it would make me avoid her altogether. And vice versa, I'm sure.
― kenan, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 22:19 (sixteen years ago) link
I just put in my vacation request for 2 weeks (18 days incl. weekends) off in June/July, and it felt gooood.
― Jordan, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 22:22 (sixteen years ago) link
smiths night at danny's?
― chicago kevin, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 22:27 (sixteen years ago) link
yes. pretty sure that place is awful.
― river wolf, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 22:42 (sixteen years ago) link
(2nd time i've been)
i don't mind it. it gets kind of brotastic later in the evening but from 8-10 (or 9:30) it's not bad.
― chicago kevin, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 22:50 (sixteen years ago) link
i've only been on "theme" nights
― river wolf, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 22:54 (sixteen years ago) link
Yeah, you def. have to go early, before it gets cray-cray.
― jaymc, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 22:55 (sixteen years ago) link
i've been on soul nights a few times but i tend to get there early before the festivities start then cut out once the steakheads show up. last time i was there i don't think it was a theme night but they were playing a lot of mid/late 60s pop (kinks, dave clark 5, paul revere, etc) and the place went from being desolate to over-run with backwards baseball caps in about 15 minutes. then i walked to delilah's.
― chicago kevin, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 22:57 (sixteen years ago) link
"steakheads"!!!
― horseshoe, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 23:02 (sixteen years ago) link
soulnight is way too busy but i generally like dannys on weekends when the djs are on point. bros come and go some nights but its usually not that bad
― deej, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 23:08 (sixteen years ago) link
definitely a dece number of cuet girls as well
what's danny's like? i want to go dancing somewhere. reviews on yelp aren't helpful: "it's hipster hell." "no, it's not" "yes it is" "no, it's yuppie hell" and so on.
― colette, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 23:24 (sixteen years ago) link
it's so dark in there, how can anybody tell a hipster from a yuppie?
― kenan, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 23:36 (sixteen years ago) link
well, my experience has been that it's pretty low-key until about 10 or so then it get's kinda fratty/jocky. i prefer to grab one of the tables in the back and keep my interactions with the ambercrombie and felch set to a minimum. it's not always over-run but it's always a possibility. as a rule i'm usually let down by people in general so that doesn't bother too much. if you have a high tolerance for douchebaggery you can do a lot worse.
― chicago kevin, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 23:40 (sixteen years ago) link
Danny's is not especially good for dancing, I don't think... it's a converted house. But overall, I have no problems with the place at all. I went there a lot my first couple years in Chicago. Not as much anymore, but that has nothing to do with the establishment.
― kenan, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 23:41 (sixteen years ago) link
yeah, it's not a destination i usually choose but a friend of mine likes it and when we go out for drinks and not just hanging out in the neighborhood we'll usually wind up there. we both love soul music though so that has something to do with it.
― chicago kevin, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 23:43 (sixteen years ago) link
I never noticed frat-ness. It's possible, though, that the neighborhood is changing so fast that the crowd is totally different than last time I was there, 6-ish months ago.
― kenan, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 23:44 (sixteen years ago) link
Bonus: Boddington's on tap.
― kenan, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 23:45 (sixteen years ago) link
on that note, i have $10 in my pocket and it's been a week since my last cigarette. i think i'm falling off the wagon right now.
xpost- re: frattyness. it's more ex-frat dudes, older but you know they've all got a couple of date rapes in their closets.
― chicago kevin, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 23:46 (sixteen years ago) link
Do they also have coke?
― kenan, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 23:50 (sixteen years ago) link
if so then perhaps i should make a return trip to danny's post-haste.
― chicago kevin, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 23:51 (sixteen years ago) link
if you are remotely good at dancing and u go to dannys you become a superstar
it is fun for dancing tho
― deej, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 23:53 (sixteen years ago) link
girls i hang w/ like it a lot tho there is a certain skeezy kind of dude who shows up, he is mostly nonthreatening
― deej, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 23:54 (sixteen years ago) link
not talking about myself, lets head that zing off @ the pass
― deej, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 23:55 (sixteen years ago) link
"it's hipster hell." "no, it's not" "yes it is"
Hmm. I dunno, guys... time to retire the word "hipster"? I used to think I knew what it meant, but I don't anymore. It's usually just shorthand for "young people with a passing knowledge of current styles in music and/or clothes." What's wrong with that? What are the alternatives? Old boozers? Dorks? Take a note, hater: your "authenticity" is stale.
― kenan, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 23:56 (sixteen years ago) link
Unless you mean "childish scenesters who put on costumes instead of clothes when they go out and make a big point of acting aloof." Which really isn't Danny's.
― kenan, Thursday, 27 September 2007 00:00 (sixteen years ago) link
eh, i usually know it when i see it. authenticity never goes out of style kenan.
― chicago kevin, Thursday, 27 September 2007 00:00 (sixteen years ago) link
i will reconsider my opinion on danny's
― river wolf, Thursday, 27 September 2007 00:00 (sixteen years ago) link
authenticity never goes out of style kenan.
well, I put it in quotes.
― kenan, Thursday, 27 September 2007 00:09 (sixteen years ago) link
The evil kitty is being especially schizo tonight. She's over excited, running around the apartment, walking into other rooms and howling at the top of her lungs. And then when I call her over, she does this "Ok I like you you can scratch my ears NO YOU CAN'T DON'T TOUCH ME!!!" I fed her but she won't eat, gave her water but she's too wound up to drink it. What else do you do? I don't have a tranquilizer gun.
― kenan, Thursday, 27 September 2007 00:14 (sixteen years ago) link
She gets like this every year when it starts to get cooler out. I have no idea why.
― kenan, Thursday, 27 September 2007 00:15 (sixteen years ago) link
Oh wait... I think I figured out what this is about. I gave her wet food for the past two days, and today when I went back to dry, it wasn't good enough. She's angry and she's punishing me.
God, this is a pisser of a cat.
― kenan, Thursday, 27 September 2007 00:20 (sixteen years ago) link
I don't have a tranquilizer gun.
But you have kitchen knives. And an oven.
That cat is awful.
― Jesse, Thursday, 27 September 2007 01:26 (sixteen years ago) link
Rip her head off. She's just a cat.
― Jesse, Thursday, 27 September 2007 01:35 (sixteen years ago) link
She's a cat, not a duck!
― kenan, Thursday, 27 September 2007 01:46 (sixteen years ago) link
And I'm not even hungry.
In his room they found a chicken and a turkey as well. And something about "It's just a turducken."
