Another Rep incumbent with a 16pt deficit in a CNN exit poll - Santorum in PA. Apparently one or two networks have now stuck their necks out and called both OH and PA for the Dems.

CNN calling NJ for Menendez - chalk another one off the list (in this case, the list of vulnerable Dems; Cardin had a 9-10pt lead in the MD exit poll, so that may be safe too).

i think webb is going to pull through in va -- i just spent about 20 minutes looking at the county-by-county returns and lining those up with what i know about these areas from the 20-some years i lived there, and the main areas where allen will be getting his votes (western nova, the blue ridge, south and west of richmond) have much higher reporting numbers. tidewater still has a lot of votes to count, as does eastern nova and, most importantly, montgomery county (my home), which is very left-leaning and has MANY votes yet to be counted. i am feeling optimistic!

CNN are being VERY cautious - only calling 64 House results whereas CBS have 180+ in (still only one gain but most Dem target haven't come in yet or are still polling).

Feeling less confident about VA now - Montgomery is mostly in and Webb has barely won there (51-48). It's Allen by 5,000 with 69% in but, here we go again, the CNN exit polls have been "adjusted" so that Allen edges it by less than 1%. Same frustrations as 2004, where CNN exit polls changed as the evening went on, often swinging by more than the additional number of respondents could likely account for. (Never mind the fact I thought exit polls were supposed to be one-shot affairs).
