Are there any non-awful bars in midtown east? I just want something that isn't 100% divey/old-man but doesn't have that "Ooh, happy hour, let's get appletinis" vibe

does Kips Bay count? this place was Ok as of a few years ago.

I went there recently. It's Irishy. Also there's liable to be music a lot of nights, since that place is "the home of Irish music in NYC." Which is a draw for me, but not for all.

like what streets in Midtown East? I'm at 44th around Grand Central and most everything around here blows. generic Irish bars with $8 pints. best one is probably O'Neill's at 45th and 3rd, decent happy hour. Perfect Pint around the corner on 45th is ok, multi-level with an open air roof bar, always mobbed though. those are my usual picks if I go out after work around here but like I said the prices are ridic. I'm hoping someone has a good answer for you actually.

there's also a relatively new german beer garden upstairs on 3rd Ave but I haven't tried it yet. Hofbrau Bierhaus.

Hurting, 3rd Ave is chock-a-block with Irish bars?? Molly's is a good one.

I'm in the low 50s on third. Every work happy hour I've ever gone to in this area has been in a miserable place.

I'm just saying, Molly's makes what is arguably the best cheeseburger in NY and it comes with a side of mashed potatoes.

molly's is also like 25 blocks from hurting's office tho.
but yeah it's great. they have good wings too.

so yeah I went back, it ended up only being an hour of my life cause I got lucky w/ trains but the moment of realization was pretty horrible

i like that Hot Bird now has a bbq restaurant attached to it. that is v convenient, even if their fries are kinda wack.

but yeah its decent BBQ and not too pricey and theyll take it over to you at hot bird if u tell em where youre seating

tbh now that they have food i dont know why id go to any other bar this summer

huh, well the bbq place next to hot bird is owned by the peaches folks

so it's basically smoke joint? still a little mad at those guys for closing little piggy which was the best place to eat in the neighborhood for a while, but smoke joint is always packed so i guess they know what they're doing.

i think its better than smoke joint but i havent eaten at smoke joint in a while. definitely cheaper.
