Clay, I think that's Mega Mall Story.

I'm stuck on level 7 of Aqueduct 101. Stupid brane.

Mega Mall Story will not have a significantly longer life than the others. Probably has more in common with Hot Springs Story than Game Dev.

Tried out a few different games this weekend. Bear in mind - I have never had a Facebook account, so I'm pretty unknowledgeable about these kinds of recent social casual gaming trends - but was kinda shocked to realize that all of these games (the ones i tried on Google+), Glitch, and Tiny Tower, use these real-time clock mechanisms to force people to keep playing, it's kind of horrifying. I know I know welcome me to several years ago

tracer if you liked drop7 try hard 8. same but different.

Kairosoft games usually deliver enough pleasure per cost, tho

Blind Diode Jefferson (kingfish), Tuesday, 16 August 2011 07:16 (twelve years ago) link

Mega Mall Story is way too easy. The last third of the game was just money piling up. It felt like a chore to get through it. Too bad, because it's definitely fun in the early part.

awesome breaker - pretty good stuff

I finished Anomaly Warzone Earth tonight, best iPhone game I've played in ages. Cute concept (it's a tower defence game only you're the attackers instead of the defenders) but then they actually built a really tight game on the back of that idea, and basically ended up with an old-school RTS, tweaked just enough so that it actually works well on a small touchscreen.

JimD, Tuesday, 23 August 2011 22:40 (twelve years ago) link

I liked it too (played on iPad), but it was too short!

Jeff, Tuesday, 23 August 2011 22:54 (twelve years ago) link

I've now played 1000 Heroz on 75 consecutive days, with no signs of letting up anytime soon.

buffandmaxsmons (polyphonic), Tuesday, 23 August 2011 23:01 (twelve years ago) link

True, but a) replaying levels is pretty fun, b) it's chillingo so I'm expecting level-pack updates, and c) c'mon, it's £1.49! (xp)

tiny wings makes me hate myself

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 24 August 2011 23:38 (twelve years ago) link

same. i have been trying to maintain fever mode throughout island 4 for almost 2 months now. it's fucking ridiculous. i try EVERY DAY. when the earthquake happened and i was on the toilet at work, i was setting myself up for an island 4 run.

IT IS EXECUTION (Z S), Thursday, 25 August 2011 01:09 (twelve years ago) link

that one is really easy -- you don't need fever from 1 through 4. just get it right before 4 and keep it until the end of 4

Mordy, Thursday, 25 August 2011 01:38 (twelve years ago) link

Um, have you noticed a) teeny baby hills at the end of Is. 3 b) stupid steep hills throughout Is. 4 that are impossible to jump on?

On what planet is that one "really easy"

Cass McCars (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 25 August 2011 01:40 (twelve years ago) link

idk, i didn't have a huge problem w/ that one. it was the getting to the 20th island or whatever that was impossible for me

Mordy, Thursday, 25 August 2011 01:42 (twelve years ago) link

just get it right before 4 and keep it until the end of 4

i know! and in fact, i've been trying for so long that i can now get a fever going at the end of 3 and carry it into 4 about 75% of the time. but that first stupid hill on island 4 is so steep that i can only get it about once every 5-6 times, and then i get so happy and nervous that i inevitably ruin everything within a few drinks.

IT IS EXECUTION (Z S), Thursday, 25 August 2011 01:45 (twelve years ago) link

uh, within a few jumps.

sigh

IT IS EXECUTION (Z S), Thursday, 25 August 2011 01:45 (twelve years ago) link

you're joking right

i can't get past island 8

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 25 August 2011 11:26 (twelve years ago) link

tiny wings seriously takes more concentration than golf

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 25 August 2011 11:26 (twelve years ago) link

I only got to 9 once, and it was a glorious run

IT IS EXECUTION (Z S), Thursday, 25 August 2011 12:19 (twelve years ago) link

Gah gah I played tiny wings this morning for the 1st time in a long time and got frustrated cause it kept skipping throwing everything off.

Jeff, Thursday, 25 August 2011 14:22 (twelve years ago) link

haha the worst is when you lose network coverage and IN THE MIDDLE OF YOUR GAME it pops up an alert about it, freezing the game behind the alert and making you decline or accept some bullshit

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Friday, 26 August 2011 12:20 (twelve years ago) link

i seriously hate tiny wings a lot

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Friday, 26 August 2011 12:20 (twelve years ago) link

i mean they created a brilliant, addictive mechanic and then made the game just soul-crushingly hard with no way to advance past a certain point

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Friday, 26 August 2011 12:20 (twelve years ago) link

geoDefense Swarm is free at the moment. Get, if you haven't already.

groovypanda, Friday, 26 August 2011 12:30 (twelve years ago) link

cannot stand tower defense type games

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Friday, 26 August 2011 12:32 (twelve years ago) link

it's like yeah i know i'm wasting time playing games on my phone, but tower defense games really foreground the "busy-work" aspect of it

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Friday, 26 August 2011 12:33 (twelve years ago) link

My problem is I like to play tiny wings with spotify playing in the background, but it is damn near impossible.

Jeff, Friday, 26 August 2011 12:41 (twelve years ago) link

bejeweled 2 + swarm is free right now

polyphonic, Friday, 26 August 2011 18:56 (twelve years ago) link

Let's Golf 3 is pretty addictive but warning it is freemium so ymmv.

nb: I think my taste in games is pretty far removed from all y'all's

Puff Daddy, whoever the fuck you are. I am dissapoint. (Steve Shasta), Friday, 26 August 2011 19:51 (twelve years ago) link

Just downloaded some new games for the weekend:

Sprinkle (water physics puzzler)
Radballs (matching game with Totally '80s theme)
Spy Mouse (99c, iPhone non-universal, from the guys who made Flight Control)
Enviro-Bear 2000 (updated for iPad)
Edge EX (never played the original; iPad update)
Aralon HD (marked down to 99c)

polyphonic, Friday, 26 August 2011 20:01 (twelve years ago) link

Aralon was too buggy to play when I tried it originally, let us know if it's fixed and I might reinstall it.

JimD, Friday, 26 August 2011 21:19 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah I don't know about Aralon. It's sort of sad.

Radballs is very cool. It's like Bejeweled + Lumines + DJ Hero + a dog wearing sunglasses / riding a skateboard.

had a good time playing Alchemy with my cousins the other day. done alone it might seem tedious (combining different elements to make ~300 new ones) but with five of us playing on our respective phones/pads/toouches and shouting out different combos, it was great.

All Big Fish games US$1. These games are the most awesome time-wasters and always beautifully rendered.

(mainly hidden object point & click)

Autumn Almanac, Saturday, 3 September 2011 00:07 (twelve years ago) link

I like those games, but I realized after buying like 15 of them that they release these all the damn time and if I didn't quit, I would give them all my money, bit by bit.

Jeff, Saturday, 3 September 2011 00:18 (twelve years ago) link

But if you're going to get just one, Drawn: The Painted Tower is still my favorite.

Jeff, Saturday, 3 September 2011 00:23 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah that one's great. Also I see what you mean about feeding them money like it's a god damned drip, I just impulse-bought 12 of them. For a buck I don't care, they're always worth it.

Autumn Almanac, Saturday, 3 September 2011 00:26 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah, I'll probably get a dozen or so...

Jeff, Saturday, 3 September 2011 00:30 (twelve years ago) link

Clockwork Tower is another good one, nicely designed and reasonably long. I don't remember any being as artistically impressive as Drawn though.
