i played at atlanta athletic one time! my sister and her husband are members

there's a plaque on the 18th fairway where Weiskopf hit his 2 iron to win the tournament (US Open?)

also, there's a little Bobby Jones museum there- pretty cool

brownie, Friday, 12 August 2011 21:12 (twelve years ago) link

apparently the members have to volunteer for this event- my bro in law will be holding up a "quiet" sign on the 17th tee tomorrow

brownie, Friday, 12 August 2011 21:14 (twelve years ago) link

cool, if i was a member there my handicap would be triple what it is. seems tough.

pandemic, Friday, 12 August 2011 21:15 (twelve years ago) link

there was a segment abt how the members really never play this course

johnny crunch, Friday, 12 August 2011 21:16 (twelve years ago) link

i played over christmas time- the rough was nothing as the grass was in hibernation at the time

we were the only ones on the course

lol xpost

brownie, Friday, 12 August 2011 21:17 (twelve years ago) link

oh right. i'm old school, a par 5 is anything over 475 yards. none of this 512yard par 4 insanity!

pandemic, Friday, 12 August 2011 21:17 (twelve years ago) link

yeah, a 260 yard par three is also beyond me

brownie, Friday, 12 August 2011 21:19 (twelve years ago) link

last wk in akron there was a par-5 of 667

johnny crunch, Friday, 12 August 2011 21:20 (twelve years ago) link

madness

brownie, Friday, 12 August 2011 21:22 (twelve years ago) link

yeah 512 yd par 4, 260 yd par 3 is just stupid

at those prices, anything under 200 yds should be a par 2

nh (cozen), Friday, 12 August 2011 21:22 (twelve years ago) link

I'm gonna play golf tomorrow!

jel --, Friday, 12 August 2011 21:26 (twelve years ago) link

brownie, Friday, 12 August 2011 21:29 (twelve years ago) link

davis love played pretty well tee->green at the us open and open iirc. his putting sucks tho.

pandemic, Friday, 12 August 2011 21:57 (twelve years ago) link

oops the plaque on the 18th was for Jerry Pate's 5 iron shot

time to open another beer

Can you tell your bro in law to jam his "quiet" sign in the throat of anyone who yells "get in the hole!" please?

I played a course once -- Fall River Valley? can't remember -- that had a 650-yd par 5...the tee shot was off a cliff, basically. The cart ride down to the fairway was a lot more intimidating than the shot.

Re: that Corey Pavin chip with his club head reversed like a shovel blade. That stuff requires an insanely precise address to the ball, like billiards at the championship level, but next to a tree root and uphill. All that run up to the actual shot was Pavin's brain calculating his stroke down to the tiniest fraction of an inch. Incroyable!

Aimless, Sunday, 4 March 2012 21:15 (twelve years ago) link

Is Tiger contractually obligated to fist pump?
